Has anyone seen an amateur production of 'JEKYLL & HYDE'?

I saw the regional premiere production.
I wore a fuzzy hat that night. I took it off during the show so the people behind me could see.
I spent the rest of the night biting it so as to supress laughter.

There's one thing I really dont understand about certain people, and it always seems to come up with respect to Wildhorn, and sometimes Eder too. I can understand why overzealous Wildhorn or Eder fans post their raves here, because they actually like them and thats what fans do, express their excitement over their favorites. But I've noticed certain posters who, whenever a Wildhorn or Eder thread comes up (and it often does), post over and over and over and over the same bashes. It starts sounding a little old, a little curious, a little like they have some kind of personal vendetta against them... and quite a bit snobbish.
Now Wildhorn has had three shows on broadway so far, so I think its safe to say that if you hate everything hes done so far, and feel so strongly about it that you never miss an opportunity to bash, then you can be about 100% sure to hate his future shows. Some advice: STAY HOME or SEE SOMETHING ELSE! But I can guarantee that these people will be the first in line to see the shows just to come back and post their endless diatribes over the evil that IS Wildhorn. See, I don't particularly care for Brittany Spears for example, but you wouldnt catch me wasting my time at one of her concerts and then posting over and over and over and over again rants about her online. I just don't get it.

awww - screw it, why censor myself to please someone I don't even know - I'm a sagitarrian so I'd better stay true to my brutally honest self - I hated Scarlett Pimpernell as well - I just think Wildehorn is a very lame writer. There were certainly some fun moments in the show - but not worth paying to see. Believe me - its not just Wildehorn's music that I dislike - I'm a pretty strong Wicked hater also. Once again - there are good things about the show - but only a few little moments. Read the book - its lightyears better and could have been made into a wonderful musical by someone like Sondheim.
I just happen to be one of those people who likes darker, meatier shows like the kind Stephen Sondheim usually writes. I've never personally gone for light, sugary-sweet shows. I'm DREADING Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - the movie was awful.
just my 2 cents

redhot~ I'm glad you spoke up, I find your thoughts honest without becomming personally offensive or idiotic. You don't seem to have an "ax to grind" with certain topics or people.
I actually liked Pimpernel more than any of Frank's other works. It simply appeals to the light side of my theater enjoyment. I thought it was well done overall and a "feel good" show. Casting Sills was genius, imho. And I can't wait to hear what Brad Little does with Percy! I hosted several large groups to SP over it's 3 yr.(?) Bd'w career and it was very well received.
Letty~ I emailed Kevin when I heard he got the role. He's certaintly qualified to pull it off well! His reviews of J/H at the Pitt. CLO were glowing too. How was Luba? Please pm me.
Regarding Peter, no worries, he's a passionate Wildhorn/Eder supporter and a very polite, reasonable sort of fellow, at least that has been my limited experience with him. :)
I do agree that Frank has an unfriendly mob that hate everything conneted with him. But so does ALW, CAM MAC, etc. and I'm not building a category but just using this as an illustration that bigger, more successful composers, producers etc. also have their fans and foes.
I personally think Wildhorn possess a lot of talent. It just seem to loose a bit of the recipe for success when his work reaches the stage. He hasn't found the right formula, but comes so close to it. He has come to the plate often and eventually may hit a home run. I have no reservations talking about this even with Frank, in fact I may have the opportunity to do so very soon as I've put in to interview him this month, in connection to his premier concert of "J&H" in June. We will see.
Thanks for keeping this on topic and polite. I think there's hope for this place! :)

PB, I agree that it's not only Wildhorn that faces the same type of ongoing bashing, but I do believe he takes the brunt of it. This is the same kind of bashing that occurs with ALW, but only intensified. And I don't understand or think thats right either. To me, however, theres a big distinction here though between those who just don't happen to like Wildhorn and others and those who constantly bash. There are a few people here who don't miss a thread where Wildhorn or Eder are concerned and constantly bash them. And for the life of me, I cannot see how anyone could come to a conclusion about Eder that she "cannot act their way our of a paper bag" based on her one broadway performance in Jekyll&Hyde, where she might not have given a landmark performance, but she wasn't all that bad. I certainly must have missed that memo on being "nice" and "polite" though, because I'd say that comment is neither. I see,... we're suppose to be nice to one another here, but composers, performers, etc are fair game lol.
When someone spends so much of their time bashing a particular composer/performer, and finds virtually no merit in any of a particular composer's work, why keep posting about it? Why keep going to their shows? I've noticed that the repeat bashers are normally big Sondheim fans, on this and other boards. Do they think Wildhorn is some kind of imagined threat to Sondheim so they have to bash Wildhorn so more people will see Sondheim, or that both composers can't coexist on broadway? So my question remains, why continue going to his shows if you've never liked anything of his, and keep posting the same bashes over and over again? If this isn't some sort of personal vendetta, or snobbery, than how do you explain it?

Even if it is a personal vendetta or snobbery, so what? No one's under any obligation to be objective around here.
We have the same conversations here all the time about everything. Get used to it.
As for it being more or less intensive for Wildhorn than others, honestly, I just think it's something you're personally noticing for whatever reason. Other creators/performers get a much harder time than he does.

Posted: 5/5/04 at 3:25pmNot that I owe anyone an explanation - but I continue to see his shows ONLY because I have friends appearing in them (and on the off chance that I might actually like one of them) and it would be rude of me not to support their working in the industry. I have seen Linda Eder live and in concert footage and every time she sings, its like watching a deer caught in the headlights - I'm not bashing her - (beautiful voice), just voicing my opinion - and if thats not what these boards are for - then why are we here? If you are allowed to adore a show - I'm allowed to hate it. And yes I hate ALW also, (at least anything written without Tim Rice).

Just so I understand the ground rules here...personal vendettas and snobbery are A-OK. Interesting. I disagree, and believe that my opinion counts just as much as yours, so forgive me if I don't "get use to it."
As I said, this kind of constant bashing isn't right for any composers, performers, etc. not just Wildhorn.

"personal vendettas and snobbery are A-OK."
Precisely.
"Interesting. I disagree ... "
Whoop-de-doo.
"and believe that my opinion counts just as much as yours"
Never said it didn't. Didn't even imply it. Didn't even think it. Your opinion counts as much as anyone, sure. But being entitled to your opinion doesn't obligate me to do anything with it with your opinion, though. You only get the right to 'have' your opinion. What I do with it is my perogative.
"As I said, this kind of constant bashing isn't right for any composers, performers, etc. not just Wildhorn."
I'll keep that in mind.

This is too funny. I didn't say anything here about you believing my opinion didnt count. I said I believe MY opinion counts just as much as yours. Instead of trying to be rude and witty, try reading the posts first..
Hey I'm being snobbish..I get it now!
And for those who think Im just another Wildhorn fanatic..I only really liked the last broadway version of SP and Camille Claudel. However, I do like much of his music. SP and Camille Claudel pretty much proved to me that his musicals can work, if he finds the right collaborators. And I happen to love much of Sondheim..just saw an excellent production this weekend of "West Side Story" in Providence, and this show remains one of my all time favorites. But I believe you can like Sondheim and also enjoy music by Webber and Wildhorn.

"This is too funny. I didn't say anything here about you believing my opinion didnt count. I said I believe MY opinion counts just as much as yours."
*sigh*
Now I have to do this ...
Here's what you said, verbatim:
"....Even if it is a personal vendetta or snobbery, so what? No one's under any obligation to be objective around here.....
Just so I understand the ground rules here...personal vendettas and snobbery are A-OK. Interesting. I disagree, and believe that my opinion counts just as much as yours, so forgive me if I don't "get over it."
The very first part of that statement is a direct quote from me.
"....Even if it is a personal vendetta or snobbery, so what? No one's under any obligation to be objective around here....."
That's all me, quoted, which you then used to make your next statement, which was:
"Just so I understand the ground rules here...personal vendettas and snobbery are A-OK. Interesting. I disagree, and believe that my opinion counts just as much as yours, so forgive me if I don't "get over it."
Again, quoted verbatim.
So the sentence 'I disagree and believe that my opinion counts just as much as yours' is VERY MUCH a direct response to something I said. In fact, the 'I disagree' part refers to the quote you pulled FROM ME, meaning you said "I disagree WITH YOU." ("You" in this case referring to me, the person you were quoting and responding to.) So, using your own sentence structure as my only guide, the 'my opinion counts just as much as yours' statement was ABSOLUTELY you saying that I didn't think your opinions were valid. It's in the same sentence as 'I disagree' which we all see was a statement TO ME.
What part of your response, then, did I neglect to read before I responded?

Oh FCS..I'm falling off my chair laughing. You're really all worked up over this, seemingly because I hit a nerve with my comments about your attempt to be witty...so I better say you win..or you might have a coronary or something.
YOU WIN..feel better now?
I won't respond to any more of your posts because I'd be afraid of being accused if you bust a vein or something. So I'll let you have the last word and feel appropriately snooty and all that. Too funny!

I can't help it you can't write. I can only respond and react to what you put on the board. But if you're going to get pissy with me, and you did, at least have the courtesy to know what YOU said.
You took yourself out of context for Pete's sake, it's not like I misrepresented you.

Sorry folks, I said I wouldn't respond, so I'll just let the above quote speak for itself. I think I might have a coronary myself from laughing so hard.
