Yes, I worked at Brooklyn when that whole Paradice thing happened. We sat around for quite a while as they tried to decide what to do. I think they asked everyone and their mother (and father) if they would go on -- nobody was willing to do it.
They finally decided to cancel the matinee (can't remember what time it was), and the girl from Denver had some rehearsal and went on in the evening on book. It was a really great experience seeing her go on -- it was her Broadway debut. I think it was Eden who made an announcement to the audience before the show explaining what was going on, and the audience was incredibly supportive.

The B&TB story is true. From what I know, the theatre has a special on stage vent system to help quickly clear the stage of the smoke from the speical effects. In 98 when they were still at the Palace, they had it replaced and there were some technical difficulties with it. From what I understand, It was too somkey for anyone to handel onstage. However, from the audeince it didn't look as bad as it actually was. So, they had to cancel a couple of preformances to fix it up for the actors safty.

I wasn't there, but I remember someone who was ushering mentioned here that a performance of Pig Farm at the Laura Pels Theater was cancelled due to flooding this past summer.I also remember that because someone crashed a cab into the front of the Lunt-Fontaine Theater the same day.

Jekyll & Hyde had to cancel at least one performance because of roof trouble in the backstage area. L'Amour cancelled some of their previews because the set was broken. Also, during the Blizzard of 1996, several shows cancelled performances.

"Slut" was cancelled for a few performances last summer due to a faulty air conditioning system at the American Theatre of Actors. I was at a performance before the system was fixed and it was unbearable (the AC, not the show itself).

During a snowstorm last winter, Chita Rivera's The Dancer's Life was cancelled.

Could someone do the world a favor and edit the grammar of the thread's title?

For the Brooklny one it is true. The next day they flew in the girl who did I believe the out of town understudying and she went on with script.
