WHYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!??!
I read that article defending stunt casting as well. I was rather appalled. I can't believe that it called Melanie Griffith a success!

Posted: 7/31/04 at 3:57pmOkay, Melanie Griffith might have been a financial (and to a certain extent, a critical) success, but she was in no way a success on these boards.

Posted: 7/31/04 at 4:23pmOh Lord! There goes CHICAGO, after all he TANKED J&H! His performance was horrific! He bought the rights to J&H so he could star in the HBO version, how sad is that? Then again, he is the most watched man on television and he would be the first to tell you that! LOL! He actually believes the public watched BAY WATCH just to see him, I can go on forever about this guy so I better end it!

this is bad news but not as bad as Melanie Griffith in Chicago or Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde. Billy only has a few songs, none of which are too difficult, and I'm sure DH can handle the role of a suave, sexy, lawyer.
Griffith was painful because of what her role required, both in talent and stage time. Same with DH in J&H. The role was too much of a stretch vocally and we just saw too damn much of him. I don't think having him as Billy will necessarily kill the show. He'll just come on for his scenes, mug and wink at the ladies in the front row, flash a little chest hair, and croon couple of tunes. The worst part will be his post-show BCEFA curtain speech where he'll inevitably work in a joke about that damndable talking car.

HA HA, I have seen a few clips of his performance in Chicago in London and let me just say... I CANNOT wait to see this! It's going to be the one of the funniest days of my life... one of the saddest days for Broadway, yes... but still, I have to see this!
Won't you guys go and see it just knowing how bad it's going to be and have a laugh about it.... or am I just totally weird???

I have seen David Hasselhoff and he can't handle the role. He was very bad indeed and was still having put in rehearsals a week into his run, which is never a good sign.
Broadwayguy2, did you SEE Pia Douwes? She did a two week stint in London prior to Broadway and she was excellent. Great voice, great dancing and an effortlessly understated take on the role of Velma Kelly.
