Have You Sung Your Fave Tune(s) In Front Of An Audience?

Posted: 5/20/06 at 3:09pmHello. I'd be interested to know how many of you have sung your favorite show tune(s) before an audience? It could be in front of a group of friends at a party or karaoke. A favorite song of mine is one of the Andrew Lloyd Webber "arias": "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from "Sunset Boulevard. I actually got the nerve to sing it at this bar called "The Mint" on Market Street in San Francisco. It's a karaoke bar in SF, near the Castro. This was March 2004. Since I'm going there in July, I'm contemplating going back to that same bar and perhaps singing "Not While I'm Around." Along the same lines, when you all sing before a group of people, is it comfortable for you or are you a total wreck (like I was)? Share.. from Roman in Austin, Texas.

My voice coach has winter and spring recitals, so yes I have sung some favorites in front of an audience! Since it is a bunch of voice and piano students though, I don't get too nervous. Usually just enjoy myself.

Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:55pmI've sung a bunch of showtunes on Kareoke. And I'm constantly bursting out in song in front of my friends. I've also auditioned for solo's with my favorite songs.

Posted: 5/20/06 at 4:59pmYeah, I have a voice class also. Although, most of them are opera students, so I get intimidated because they all find musical theatre to sub-opera. But they seem to enjoy when I sing, so I guess I'm doing something right - lol.

I belong to a theater group and a gay men's chorus, so, I have gotten the chance to sing some of my favorites.
I played Molina in "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and got to sing "She's a Woman" and "Dressing Them Up".
Every year, the chorus has a cabaret evening and I've gotten to sing "Repent" from "On the 20th Century" and "Fifty Percent" from "Ballroom".

Posted: 5/20/06 at 6:47pmSome of my buddies have their own karaoke set-up, so I've had some good times ruining various songs at their parties. I think my BEST one was either Empty Chairs At Empty Tables (I'm a soprano) or I'll Cover You (I'm one girl). XD What can I say? I don't treat karaoke so seriously. :3 (I've done other songs pretty well though. ^_^)

Posted: 5/20/06 at 9:53pmSeniors in my high school choir are required to sing any song they would like in front of the chorus, as their final. I sang This is the Moment, from Jekyll and Hyde, and I'd have to say it was pretty good. I have also sang show tunes like all the time with my friends.

Posted: 5/20/06 at 9:56pmI have not sang too many broadway songs infront of a live audience. The closest thing is "Heaven on their Minds" during BWW IDOL.

I've done a few that I really like for my conservatory's recital each spring...If I Were a Bell, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, I Could Have Danced All Night. I'm singing In His Eyes from Jekyll & Hyde this year.
My older sister and I sing Take Me or Leave Me all the time for karaoke (yes, the concept is gross, but we rock it, I must say...lol).

Hmm.
I was lucky enough to be cast as Winnifred in Once Upon a Mattress my senior year of high school, so I got to sing "Shy" and "Happily Ever After," two of my favorite songs.
Also, at a talent show (at NJ Girls State) and my senior poetry cafe, I snatched the microphone and sang "Nothing" - it's the only song I can do at the drop of a hat.

Even better than just singing the song: I got to play Mr. Mushnik in "Little Shop of Horrors" about a month ago, so I got to sing "Mushnik and Son" (my favorite song in that show).
I sang "If I Were a Rich Man" in a chorus concert with a movie theme. i also use this song a lot for auditions.
I did "A Little Bit of Good" as my performance final in my Musical Production class. They loved it (especially since they all got to see how good I look in a dress).

I got to sing Freddy My Love when I was in Grease and of course all of the Emsemble songs such as WE Go Together and You're the One That I Want.
At a pep rally our Sandy had to leave before our second show so I sang her part in Summer Nights (with bronchitis, but I managed to do it well enough.) I also had to sing backup on Bushel and a Peck.
This year I sang backup for Oldest Establihsed, Bushel and a Peck, and Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat in Guys and Dolls.
Over the summer I sang Hopelessly Devoted (not exactly a show tune, but you know the deal...) for a talent show.

Every time I audition, I sing my favorite songs in front of a bunch of really intimidating people
And then, of course, there's musical theatre classes, piano bars, and shows, so I've had lots of opportunities.
