When I saw the national tour of Peter Pan everyone booed when Captain Hook entered the stage. The actor just turned out and said "I haven't done anything...yet."

I have never booed, but I heard it after a performance of ABT many years ago. I can't even remember what piece it was or who choreographed it. I thought the booing was totally inappropriate and the audience around said booer managed to find the culprit.

"Are you all saying Boo or Boo-erns?"
"BOOO!"
"I was saying Boo-erns..."
"BOOO!"
"I was saying Boo-erns..."
"But I can tell you that Raoul, who was so handsome in "The Phantom," is now a drunken wreck."

Believe me, I will give a standing ovation for anything
I won't. I'm very stingy with standing ovations. The reward for a good solid, professional effort is my applause. A show (or a performance) has to be truly outstanding to get a standing O from me.
(Okay, I do stand a bit more willingly on opening or closing night. On opening night, standing is an expression of congratulations. On closing night, it's a gesture of farewell.)

He's a faker, and you've been taken in by his con. And in doing so, you are enabling him. He is doing more damage to aspergers than papa's words ever could. -Chane/Liverpool on me having asperger syndrome.

If I ever sat by a boo-er, I would backhand them right in the mouth. As. Hard. As. Possible.
Boo-ers, it is not your responsibility to let everybody else know the show sucks. They probably already know that on their own. Everybody involved deserves the respect to not be booed, because it takes a lot of work to put on even a bad show.
I don't mean this in the case of things like the "Gaston" booing, as that is okay. :)

Recently booed a highly offensive standup comic, but would never do it to a show with any dignity, no matter how much I didn't enjoy it.

I'd never boo at a show, no matter how bad it is. It's just rude to the audience and actors.

Never in a million years would I boo an honest effort, even if what I am seeing is truly horrible. Unprofessional behavior is a different matter altogether. If a performer can't be bothered to show the audience some respect, then we owe them nothing.

Isn't booing rude? I never heard anyone boo. You don't boo on broadway.
