Hola! If you visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/paige/ and choose to listen to today's show, the last song is the song 'The Phantom Of The Opera' from the new movie. Listening to the show online will allow you to fast forward right to the end of the show. The fifth song into the show is the new version of the 'Overture' from the movie too. It's all very exciting!
If you missed the show, you can still hear it by going to the "Listen Again" feature.
Why the electric guitar? WHY?!?

Its like an update of the song. I personally like it. However, the Phantom's voice will take some getting used to...
Thanks for the link!
Inthemoney, the original single for the show also had electric guitar. It's a very good choice and it makes it sound wonderful. Do you not like it just because that's not what was done in the show? The movies are always different from the show. Always. They need to make it more rock sounding. We have to appeal to the popular audience in those little ways so we can make money off this thing.
Oh my god, I am so pissed off. If Gerard Butler sounds that bad throughout the entire film then, well, that just sucks. I'm speechless. He sounded really bad on that clip, I'm sorry.
Emmy Rossum sounded good though. I like her voice. She's not as strong as the Christines I've seen on Broadway, but they were all like, 30, and in the film they're obviously trying to be realistic with the age thing. Christine's supposed to be about 19, Emmy Rossum is 19 or thereabouts, and sounds pretty damn good for someone so young.
That said, let me express once more my horror at Gerard Butler's singing. Let's all say a little prayer together that he sounds better on the other tracks.
Oh, and by the way, what the f**k was with the electric guitar in the background? This isn't "Jesus Christ Superstar," Joel.
Distinctive Baritone, come on, he isn't THAT horrible, okay he isn't good, not even so-so. BUt he isn't god awful. I love Emmy Rossum, she has this very nice quality to her voice that no other Christine has had. I love the orchestrations. The elcrtic guitar is pretty much necessary. I mean this isn't La Boheme. This is Lyodd Webber for crying out loud!

Gerry is definitely different... I don't mind the roughness in his voice at some points...it fits. But most of the time his voice seems weak to me. I don't have any problems with Emmy or Patrick though.
I guess if you want to see a Phantom with a superb voice and great acting...you can always go the Broadway show. I still heart Hugh Panaro. My opinion at least! :)

He's still in it? Is Sandra Joseph in it too? I saw it like three years ago with them in it. They are very good.
Bronx, I didn't like the guitar because I thought it sounded DIRE!!! It so DOESN'T fit with the ad libs at the end!!!! It just sounds so wrong! It certainly doesn't add to the mood. I'm sure you could fit an electric guitar in, but what it was playing sounded dreadful.
I'm with DB - it sounds like they've decided to put the synth from "Heaven On Their Minds" into POTO and it doesn't work. For a start, the show is set in an Opera House after all! And in the 19th C, so no "Rock opera"!!
I know they need to "update" and "popularise" the show to make money from a film. I just think this backfires. A lot. I mean, the guitar orchestrations don't even sound modern! Queen, anyone?
Like bronx said, the electric guitar was in the song originally
(just listen to the single that was released in the 80's) but was taken out for some reason that I am not sure of. I personally like the guitar. I liked it when I heard that single I mentioned above and was like, "Wow. I wish they would have kept that in." Gerard's voice does take some getting used to, but after I listened to him through the entire highlights cd, I actually started to like him a lot. His voice is so raw that it shows the hurt and anger in his voice from years and years of turmoil and abuse. Trust me....when you hear "Point of no Return/Track down this murderer" you will understand because the movie version is the best version I have ever heard. God, I felt chills when I first heard it (still do).
i love his voice... its different from other phantoms, but it works perfectly!

His voice doesn't seem to have nearly enough body in it. The Phantom is a dark and mysterious character, and I think his voice should reflect that. This guy sounded very poppy. Also Emmy scoops a little too much for my liking.
Well, Michael Crawford was "poppy" in a way. I mean, this is not an opera after all (even though some people think it is). Granted, I wish Gerard had more of a classical tone, but like I said, once you hear a lot of the songs, his voice does grow on you.
Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but that Overture made me extremely excited to see the movie. When does the soundtrack come out for this movie?
And all I heard was the instrumentals, and then Michael Crawford singing Music of the Night along with that siren Brightman.

The soundtrack comes out Nov. 23rd. You can already pre-order it on Amazon or Sony.
I love the orchestrations! It'll be great to hear it surround-sound in the theater!
And yes, Hugh is still playing the Phantom. It hasn't been 3 years, has it? He took over the role after Howard McGillin in April 2003. So, about a year and a half?

I lovvvve emmy's voice. Before this, i didn't know she could sing, but she clearly is very, very talented!
Cannot wait to go see this movie when it is released. the song sound amazing.
"And all I heard was the instrumentals, and then Michael Crawford singing Music of the Night along with that siren Brightman. "
If you were referring to what you heard on the Elaine Page show, that wasn't Sarah Brightman singing with Michael Crawford on "Music of the Night." It was Barbra Streisand.
moshi pak
emmy rossum sounds great. gerard butler doesn't.
