Heathcliff The Musical - thoughts?

So just relistening to this, and I personally really really like it, and im sure there is a great musical in there. I used to have the video of it too, and remember enjoying that.

Obviously Cliff Richard is a huge casting error, and in fact I would probably recast the whole thing. The score and book need a bit of work but the basis of a great musical is there. It just needs better casting and a darker and more fitting production.

I dont know how it was received by critics (not well Id guess) but id like to see this produced again

what do others think?

What a coincidence that you've posted this today, I was just thinking about this show last night whilst watching the new itv adaptation. I love this show! I have the original video tape and watch it ocassionally. I'd love to see it re-produced, perhaps scale it down a little, as I know the original production toured to arenas before going to Hammersmith. So ye, that makes two fans on Broadwayworld! lol

haha great another fan!

Thats actually what made me think of it. Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite classics, but I find it hard to find decent adaptions. So often they dont capture the intense passion and rawness of the book. Thought the new version did a good job, and the cast were strong (love Tom Hardy anyway ever since I saw him in Man of Mode at the National)

I actually think a small use of projections would work for the moors etc. Yeah a smaller scale production would be great

Any show with Cliff Richards connected to musical theatre, has to be dubious!!!

I actually like much of the score and think it could be a really good show. The younger and older roles of Heathcliff need to be divided between two actors. Seeing Cliff perform was bad enough, but as Young Heathcliff, it was downright embarrassing. If Cliff's ego could be separated from the piece and he could be banned from the theatre, I'd loved to see it re-imagined and revived.

off top of my head if i was casting this

Heathcliff - Ramin Karimloo or Hadley Fraser
Cathy - Louise Dearman, Lara Pulver or maybe Caroline Sheen if she can be harder and dirtier
Linton - Simon Bailey

Id like them to re-write it and if they could bring back the character of Nelly, Maria Friedman would be great

OK OK the score is OK, not brilliant, but to see it on stage for over 3 hours was one of those 'Too Close To The Sun' experiences!
re: Heathcliff The Musical - thoughts?
Good old Cliff tho, yet another West End show when not a seat was left for its entire run.
