I just rented and watched the movie version of Hedwig.

It was so good that I really can't believe the show ever closed. Where did it play? When did it run? Why did it close, and is there any chance it might come back?

Hedwig and the Angry Inch enjoyed a 3 & 1/2 year run at The Jane Street theatre, pretty successful for a little off-broadway show. The stage show however was very different than the film. Where the movie has great visuals and acts out Hedwig's fabulous journey, the stage show was basically one Hedwig concert, with Hedwig telling her life story in monolouges between songs. Still fantastic, with a great score, and John Cameron Mitchell is a goddess!!!!

And apparently they have recorded an album of celebs singing Hedwig songs to benefit The Harvey Milk School in NYC. I don't know who's on it besides Cyndi Lauper. It's due to come out in October.

I know so many other people like the song too but my favorite song from Hedwig is "Wig in a Box"

Actually, the show ran for 2 years at the Jane. The fan base kept it going that long but it almost closed a couple times earlier due to slow ticket sales. The dedication of the producers and creative staff kept it open as long as it ran, at a loss. The show indeed had a loyal cult following. The film, made by the creator, John Cameron Mitchell, was astonishingly true to the show, and won a few awards at Sundance. If you have any other questions about Hedwig, please PM me!

Count me in that cult following.

I love the music and have seen the show several times off-Broadway and in local productions. Each actor playing the lead brought his (or her in the case of Ally Sheedy) own interpretation.

Here's an article about the upcoming album of Hedwig covers.

There was a production in Pittsburgh this summer that moved to the Hartford Stage Company for a few weeks in August. I made the trip and saw it three times, bringing relatives and friends. Hedwig is quite a show, and this production starring Anthony Rapp was in fine form.

There is a chance, according to Anthony, that the production may turn up someplace else, possibly as late as next spring. So, Hedwig may turn up in a town near you, even though travel exhausts her.

I'm involved in the creative design team for a production of Hedwig in Syracuse, NY opening in late January so if any of you Hedwig fans are looking for a production to see, this looks like it will be a great show. Now as a member of said team I can't mention any names, but I can say that the previous poster was right, maybe.
