Hedwig national tour?

Is this even a possibility? I realize that the show itself wouldn't sell unless there was a actor that draws people in and I know how celebrity's are today about doing National Tours. But could this even possibly happen?

I agree: anything is possible. The Broadway incarnation won Tony Awards including Best Actor in a Musical so it merits interest from the non-saavy theatre goer who goes to see tours/productions with the 'Tony Award Winning' tagline attached (I know many of these types).

The Broadway incarnation is staged differently from the original Off-Broadway incarnation so it can be done in any theatre with a proscenium stage as all theatres can remove the orchestra pit plus its not a complex unit set to travel. Any 'celebrity' attached is a plus so it really does not need a superstar on the road.

Realistically though, how well would this show do on tour in middle America where most season subscribers happen to be senior citizens? Would this story really sell? I'd love to see an extended LA and Chicago run of the show. That would probably do really well!

All the senior citizens need is "Tony Winning" and they will throw their money at the box office. Trust me. I live in Louisville KY. When BOM came through everybody thought "Best Musical? It must be good!" A lot of people left after Hada Diga Eboei (sp).

Yes, anything is possible, but in this case, it is not probable.

Whatever star that would be signed would need ten times the wattage of NPH.

I don't think there is an actor (or actress) under 40 who can act, sing, dance, has the energy and discipline to play this 7-8 times a week AND is a genuine star. And also who wants to go out on the road.

A small regional production might work in Chi, SF and LA. However the production values would be substantially less than the current Broadway production.

Every time a piece of scenery moves there is an added stagehand expense.

Chicago has had at least two productions within 5-6 years, with the last one just last summer. So I don't know if the city would also host a sitdown of the current production.

For a frame of reference, every Best Revival winner going at least back to 2008 has toured. Of course those shows were pretty different from HEDWIG, but it's still a pretty strong precedent.
