I just emailed my local PBS station. I begged and pleaded- using very eloquent and big words, that they should ALSO tape and save Grey Gardens. Company- although great, was fiction, while GG was true. GG is educational, as PBS shows are known to be.
Will a flood of protesting emails to our local PBS stations help?
Let's flood!!!

Um, PBS didn't film/tape COMPANY. A private company and producer had this filmed/taped -- PBS is only airing it. They had nothing to do with the filming/taping.
PBS doesn't 'film' those Broadway shows we've seen. They only air them. Even those Broadway shows that aired on their LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER series wasn't filmed by PBS -- Lincoln Center filmed/taped those.
Writing to PBS is pointless as there is nothing they can do. They don't have the funds to go and film/tape things.

Also, Great Performances is PBS' 'performing arts' series -- PBS doesn't 'film' those specials that air as part of their Great Performances series. PBS uses that series to air the apropo special as part of Great Performances.
Private companies film those specials (FOSSE, SOUTH PACIFIC AT CARNEGIE HALL), and if PBS is interested, they will air it as part of their Great Performances series.
Again...PBS doesn't film/tape these things. They don't have the funds, hence their pledge drives, etc.

I found that even repeating myself 46 times, people STILL don't get the point.
Seems to be a common thread on this board.
Common sense and basic knowledge seems to evade many, it seems.
Until then...I will try to drive my point till the cows come home.
What's YOUR excuse?

Posted: 7/2/07 at 12:02amif only it were so easy... I do wish for Grey Gardens to be recorded and aired, but I think it's safe to say that it simply will not happen....

Posted: 7/2/07 at 12:34amNot only does PBS's "Great Performances" film and release Broadway shows, but Direct from Broadway also films and releases shows, I own Jekyll & Hyde the Musical and Smokey Joes's Cafe on DVD. You can try contacting them.

Direct from Broadway folded (aka -- went bankrupt) many years ago, hence why no more Broadway shows were ever released.
