Help out a poor Canadian, eh?

Howdy folks,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster here. Travelling to NYC for the second time in April and would like a wee bit of help from you. It occurred to me as I looked at the foreign exchange rate that for me to buy Broadway tickets at regular price would cost me in about the millions of Canadian dollars. (Ok, slight exaggeration. It's only several thousand.) Could anyone in the know post some of the discount codes or tips so I can buy tickets in advance - or at least cheaper? I don't know if I want to try my luck at the TKTS booth or rush tickets.

Also, I've narrowed down my list of possible shows to see to this:

Aida
Mamma Mia!
Little Shop
Rent
Phantom
Boy From Oz
Lion King
Phantom
Producers
Wicked
Millie

I have to narrow this field down to 4 of 5. Aida and Oz are almost sure things unless someone can talk me out of ogling Hugh Jackman. (Unlikely. I mean, look at him.)

I usually don't recommend shows without knowing the person, but since you're from out of town, I would suggest shows that you may not see travel to Canada too often in many provinces. Therefore, I might suggest.

Boy From Oz & Wicked , for sure.
Producers , (the NY cast is better than the tour leads, especially now).
Aida, Mamma Mia or Lion King , just for fun, if you're so inclined.

Those would be my choices out of the group if I were visiting.

The other posters basically hit on all the good places to get discounts. As for what to see (from your list)

definitely see Aida. It's amazing.
also try to check out Little Shop, Rent, Wicked and Millie or Boy From Oz. Mamma Mia! is also a lot of fun, but isn't anything special.

i'm not canadian but people tell me I have a Canadian accent. Weird huh? lol

If the show has a discount code, you can allways find it on broadwaybox.com
I usualy get the mailers, as do many others, and they all wind up there very soon after.
Seasonofsavings.com is good until mid March, but all their deals are also on broadwaybox.com
Trying to stretch the loonie, eh?
Check the deals on The Hotel Edison, and their coffee shop is the greatest.
Also, Thoroughly Modern Millie, still "the best musical in town, bar none".

Rent is my favorite show and I just saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was still great! Also, they are practically always offering discounts.
Wicked is close behind Rent for my favorite. Not to be missed!
Little Shop is pure fun and I love the cast.

If you're heading to the Big Apple, you have to have an appetite. I can't believe the serving sizes. I just heard about an ice cream store called Cold Stone Creamery, so I'm heading there when I'm in town. Store is on 42nd ST. I have enjoyed, in no particular order: Virgil's BBQ (I think reservations are recommended); Houlihan's; Heartland Brewery & Chophouse 127 West 43rd Street; Stage Delicatessen 834 7th Avenue; and John's Pizza (260 W44th btwn 7th & 8th). Also, if you have time, try a walking tour. Even on your own in Manhattan. Grab a book or look on line for walking tours. Also, I love the little bit of Brooklyn I've seen. And on a gorgeous day, the Brooklyn Bridge beckons.
