I just saw pics of Brooke in WT on Broadway.com
http://www.broadway.com/template_3.asp?CT=26&CI=42225&AP=3&NA=F

and i realy dont know if this is gonna work.
So many people have said that this was the best thing
that ever happened to the show, but i think that it is
a bad bad choice....
I know she is great with choreography.. but how is she
when she sings Swing and Conga...

Was anyone at the Hirschfeld Theatre that night??

I am not myself, but i become a character in itself, to only hope that my transformation is not of me, but of whom i characterize myself to be..

I think she will be great. Ruth dosen't call for a great singer. And a lot of the notes Donna took in Conga, and Swing were optional.

To nitpick: Why film a commercial that is basically just a video of a photo-shoot? This character is a plain unmarried 40ish gal from Ohio, but the advertisement suggests a chic NY urban woman ... who looks like a model ... you know, like former model Brooke Shields. I agree she looks damned stunning, but it's a strange sort of magazine approach to selling a show that's never been about Ruth's glamour.

I always thought that Ruth was supposed to be kind of homely and DEFINITELY not glamorous. More of a rough-tough, working class gal.

I saw the show Thursday (Sep 30) and Brooke looked very nice indeed, but not stunningly beautiful, and she fits the character to a t. She spoke in a dialect just like in those old 1930's movies, very smooth and smoky, and I thought she handled her dance routines very well, especially concidering she only had two weeks to rehearse. It has been stated here and elsewhere that she is not that great a singer, and I agree, but as stated above, "Ruth dosen't call for a great singer".
Jennifer Hope Wills as Ruth's sister Eileen is as stunningly beautiful as the charcter calls for, and she has a lovely voice. I especially liked her in her solo "A Little Bit In Love".

After seeing the show, it felt like the direction Ruth went was that she was pretty but Eileen is just prettier(There is a lot of emphasis on Eileen's chest now). But that could have just been my interpretation of what they did with it.

Thanks, Hank. The proof is in the performance, and you make a persuasive case.
