DAME, the burning bush got unintended guffaws, not subtle laughs. I just felt the urge to cover my face from embarrassment.

So it's not like the cast don't realise they're in the biggest turkey of recent times then? I guess they'd have to know. I mean, they're not dead, after all.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

From the way they rushed out of the stage door, with their heads practically covered, I'd say it safe to think they know.

Oh how sad for the actors! Poor guys just want to perform and they end up in this big fiasco, that makes musical theatre look bad. re: Here is my 10 commandments review...

And teleprompters? Geez how distracting. And how insulting for the actors to have their lines spoon-fed. Ugh.

Kevin Earley was wonderful, and I agree, I've never seen him do anything bad, either. He was the only reason I was eager to see this turkey.
Teleprompter was reeling off Kilmer's lines -- to his credit, he wasn't using it all the time. But then again, he muffed lines on opening night and was making up lyrics that weren't on the screen at times, too. He cannot sing. And there's no way his voice (what there is of it) is going to last through 8 shows a week.
Alisan Porter was quite good as Miriam. Also good (singing, anyway, as no one got any chance to act in this lumbering load of bollocks): Adam Lambert as Joshua (definitely the crowd favorite) and Nita Whitaker as Zipporah, who has the misfortune to marry Moses.

I bartend in the Kodak so I've been there through the previews and then last night for the premiere..I'm not an actor and I don't know anything about singing, but I could tell you that the crowd reaction was tons better last night and a few people I talked to saw a preview show and then this one and said it had improved a lot..I wish I had an answer about the teleprompter, but I could look into whether it's being used for this show...

I couldn't subject myself to sitting through this again but I did stop by the ultra opulent after party on the roof deck of the Kodak. None of the cast looked "proud" and Kilmer was a mess. Let's just say, the party was far better than the show.

Hey there. I don't usually post, but I felt compelled. I'm in the cast of the Ten Comm and just wanted to get a few things off my chest.
First of all I must say that people are going to hate what they are going to hate. It's no business of mine to tell you what to enjoy...but I ask to please refrain from saying things such as "the cast was exiting with heads low" or " no one looked proud at the party" Whatever you want to make up is your choice, but in my many years of experience I've never worked with a more talented, more professional OR more proud group of performers.
Also to say..."the poor actors" Well, we are all pretty darn proud to be working on a production contract in Los Angeles. Will it run? Who knows. But you must know that everyone involved is 100% commited to doing the best work they can do. For in the end that is our job and we leave the rest for others to deal with. I just had to let whoever reads this know that this cast is very proud of all the hard work that went into putting this monster up and no one is embarrased in the least. Take care all...

I saw the preview on Sunday (9/26) afternoon. Sitting in the 3rd row all the way to the right of center stage allowed me to read the teleprompter quite easily. I also got a great view of all the ripples and abs of the dancers and the lack thereof on Val Kilmer.
In a way I felt sorry for Mr. Kilmer. He was so wrong for this production it was ridiculous. He has a pleasant voice when singing by himself -- but when you put him next to Broadway stars like Kevin Early, he is obviously completely out of his league. It becomes sad. Then to top it off with a teleprompter, it then turns into a bad karaoke performance. I am much older than Mr. Kilmer and can still memorize a script and music is even easier.
The score was dreadful! There may have been one decent song in the entire show.
The singers, however, were excellent.
Especially Kevin Early, Adam Lambert and Alisan Porter. The dancers were fine as were those who had solos like Spring and Mark Luna.
I was impressed with the multi-media and lighting. The special effects were a bit much and sitting so close to the stage, I thought I would end up a casualty of the wrath of Moses!
P.S.: I had to explain the whole story of Moses to my daughter after the show. Especially the Britney Spears dancing in the desert.

Lizbeth,
I appreciate what you are saying. I have to tell you that while your group might be very proud of having a production contract in LA ( something that is not unusual); and you are all bonding from having to go thru this experience together; - I do hope tha for your sanity and your own perspective; that you are aware of what a turkey this show is. I am not trying to be mean. I just know you will take alot more out of this experince if you are approaching it in a honest way. The show is horrendous. And by the way the reviews have just started coming out and they agree. Congragulations on being a working actor in LA. Hpefully you will get lots of good stories to tell from this experience.

Lizbeth,
Be proud that you are working and be happy for the experience. I saw the show opening night. It was not a pleasant thing to sit through.

Believe me, there is no one more honest about things than I. But I don't see how it is beneficial to go to work every day with the attitude "my show is a turkey" In the end from my perspective it just doesn't matter, I'm doing my job to the best of my ability.
I mearly posted what I did because of all the comments being said about the actors being embarrased and "covering their heads while leaving the stage door". Nothing could be farther from the truth. Perhaps you would like to imagine that that would be how you would feel if you were in a "turkey", But this cast does not.
Yes I have some very great stories to take away with me and I'm alot richer right now then I was at the beginning of the summer.
all for now

Excellent. Glad to hear. Love Rick Negron by the way. I spent half the show trying to find him on that stage like a "Wheres Waldo" game. Did you know that he used to be a Iris Chacon dancer?

I've been intrigued by this thread for a week or so...the hostility expressed here...and now the debating! I'm very happy to see a cast member posted. My husband and I attended Sunday night's show (9/26) and drove 2 1/2 hrs up from San Diego to do so. We bought our tickets about a month back. We read the preview show reviews on here just before heading up to our showing and had subsequently lowered our expectations down to zilch as a result. So...we were quite surprised to find that we both enjoyed it tremendously! We happily stayed for the entire show and everyone we talked to and sat by were all happy, enjoying it as well. We had orchestra seats, left side. We did see the flaws that have been discussed here, but they did not lower the quality to "horrific" by any means. This show is entertaining from beginning to end, heartfelt, and worth the ticket price...unless you are already bent on hating it or jaded about the stage in general. We are not professional performers ourselves, but we do appreciate extremely hard-working, talented individuals and the tremendous group effort this must take to bring to life. Our advice would be to go with an open mind, just as you should approach all things in life. And remember it's easy to find faults in others....not something to really be proud of yourself. Keep your chins up cast, that is where they should be! - My pic tribute to the hard working cast...board name tribute to Val...a gifted, soulful artist. **Michelle** Updated On: 9/30/04 at 03:17 PM

Well; I am glad someone enjoyed it. I would just hate for someone to waste money on this. If anyone feels the need to sit through this show; then please take advantage of the many comps being given around town. Unless you are rich and don't mind wasting money. Red See; your Icon and comments make me believe you were going to like it no matter how awful it is. Don't want to accuse you of being a shill; but I challenge anyone who has seen this show and reads your post not to wonder. Anyway; glad you enjoyed. And I agree; cast members should feel really proud. No one is arguing their hard work.

I just wanted to add something to all this. They are comping lots of schools. I hate that alot of kids who have never been to the theater will be seeing this and come away thinking that this is what a live show is all about. Lizbeth; glad your being payed well for being in this thing. I wish they had paid me for sitting through it.

Lizbeth, perhaps YOU did not rush out of the theater hiding but the folks I saw, that I know were in the show...did. I understand you're just thrilled to be working and that's all good and well, and I'm thrilled for you, but it doesn't mean that the piece is good and/or that you are bad. It's not about you, it's about Kilmer and the spectacle that was 2 plus hours, none of us will get back. Don't take it personally.
