I was one pissed off hussy when I saw this thing.

I think that ONE OF THE MAJOR reasons people are so down on this show is simple:
They kept screaming at us through advertising and hype that this was the Second Coming...insisting that spectacle equals substance. The same can be said about many a Broadway show. It was nothing but legitimate "Anticappointment" A promise never fulfilled.
It's as if it somehow deserves to be liked, because they are putting so much into it....except one thing--engaging storytelling and good music. This is what is wrong with theater in this modern age...if there isn't a helicopter landing on stage or a chandelier falling, then it isn't worth the time or money.
So many great shows have either failed on Broadway or have never even made it, because they didn't have rear projection or moving barracades.
Can you imagine community theaters being able to do THE LION KING, POTO, LES MIZ, MISS SAIGON or even WICKED?
Bigger almost always never equals better.

The reason people are so down on the show is because it sucks. Plain and simple. Horrendous music, horrendous lead, horrendous sets, and horrendous staging. It still gets me worked up just to think that schools are beig comped and a whole bunch of teenagers are going to think that this is what theater is all about.

I know some people who worked on the special effects that were projected onto the huge screens. I haven't got to see it yet. Were the special effect pretty cool at least.

Okay, I'm new around here and I don't have a theater background, so bear with me please ... I'm just a bit (if I am, somehow, in any way, not allowed to say, overly) confused about:
If this show (read: Operette .... NO! I mean, Cabarette!) really sucks, why is it rumours have it that it's going to Radio City Music Hall? Doesn't this bear a very (if I am, somehow, in any way, not allowed to say, extremely) serious question? If the reviews have been really bad (I can't give any comments here on the show since I've never attended it), why it can go that far? Does that mean this is a real jeopardy to stain the great name of RCMH? I am not a fan of Val Kilmer, but I've seen his performance in great movies such as Doc Holliday (Tombstone), Ray Levoy (Thunderheart), Jim Morrison (The Doors) and Danny Parker aka Tom Van Allen (The Salton Sea) and I really found enjoyment in the deepest most intense way. And it stopped right there ... I've seen Spartan, good reviews, it stopped right there (again). That's when and where every good thing about Val Kilmer ceased to exist. What happened? To those who believe in God, I'd say 'Only God knows'. To those who don't believe, I'd say 'Who knows?' And to those who believe in the great star, I'd say 'He knows!'
Okay, I'm not going to blabber some more and twist your brain in a worse turn, but ... last but not least ..... what the h*** has happened here to the theater world? How fair (and then again, worse) can this be for those, with real talents, who have been trying so hard to make it? This guy comes along, tags along, with the famous great name to sell, and everybody is supposed to bow and give a standing ovation? Woo Hoo ... How lame! About standing ovation, one can simply pay a 'whoever' to get in there, sit there, and when the show is over, start the spectacle of worshipping (read: standing ovation).

In addition to my previous comment, I've heard the news about the stalker going on and on and on on the official messageboard (how clever of a politic is that)! And to top it all, it's said that the Owner of the Official messageboard has FULL RIGHT of APRROVAL of what is posted there, in other words, this star let the news come out (whoa!) and it, in one way or the other, hopefully, wishfully, will detract from the horrific reviews. Now, it makes it clearer that the bucketfuls of free tickets distributed by "God or Who or He knows who" has certainly made the way to RCMH! I did not know the theater world could be fooled that easily ..... very sad ... it is sad ..... (Honestly, I have my face full of tears as I'm typing this message.) World has gone astray ..... Let alone all this priceless art ... from the real artists who end up in the dump because this type of star is the one who apparently 'has prevailed'.
