I got it in the mail and gave the four songs a whirl...
Will Chase sounds fine; so does Jenn Colella. I'm not certain it's great material though (lyrics include "Losing you is like having a cold in the middle of summer" and the cliche "[my] heart is heavy as a stone"). Some of the lyrics are clearly meant to be tongue in cheek (e.g., during a love song ballad "...and in this light you don't look so bad"). Ugh.
But best of luck to the cast & crew in Boston this month. (Really though, does B'way need another mediocre 80s musical?)

The book (and thus, I assume, the musical) makes references to 70s singer Leo Sayer, the 80s TV show Cheers and Elvis Costello's song "Alison" and the 90s film "Reservoir Dogs." The first relationship takes place in 1972 (Alison Ashworth) and the others continue on. The four songs I'm listening to sound very pop-80s.

it must be in the 90's if they reference a 90's film
still, thats too bad to hear the dissappointment
Intriguing that you find the lyrics pedestrian as Amanda Green is somewhat of a genius with them in my opinion. I am wondering if they're just not translating so well out of context.

1. Desert Island Top 5 Break Ups
2. She Goes
3. Ready to Settle
4. Nine Percent Chance
And yes, Amanda Green is a great lyricist.

The book has deep meaning for me because my ex loaned it to me when we first got together. Then when he brke my heart in a million little pieces, I ran over the book. (I use a power wheelchar, it was fun!) Anyway, I hope the songs live up to the great music in the film. I am just a little concerned about a musical like this, because the movie relies on such wonderful established songs. It should be interesting to see how it goes though.
I have very high hopes for this show, and I think the songs will be taken better when performed in context. I'm so excited, 17 days!
Did you sign up to get this in the mail, or did they just randomly send it to you?

You didn't like the lyrics? I actually loved some of them from "Desert Island Top 5 Break Ups," such as:
"Losing you is a sold out movie: no big deal, just kind of a bummer."
"It's a pizza dream, an ice cream headache that you know will soon be gone; five minutes of pain, then you move on."
I think those are some great lyrics -- oddball metaphors that actually make sense.

That's the absolute best part of that song. I used to rewind the Norbert demo to hear him sing it over and over.
I never saw the movie, can someone tell me a quick synopsis of the what the story is about?
taken from Broadway dot com:
High Fidelity is a romantic musical comedy that follows the adventures of Rob, a record store owner who knows almost everything about pop music, but almost nothing about how to hang on to a girl. Rob's love life, already a broken record of heartache, falls off the charts completely when he gets dumped by Laura…but that just sets him up for one of the top 5 romantic comebacks ever.
"You're put on the list once you buy from telecharge/ticketmaster."
That's weird, because I've bought tickets through those companies before and received squat.

I got the CD in the mail since I'm on the Ticketmaster group sales roster (I purchased 25 tix to Piazza last winter).
