Who thought this would be a good idea for a musical? I adore Nick Hornby's book and the John Cusack movie, but the story is so episodic. Also, so much of the humor comes from the rapid-fire dialogue and long monologues about pop culture. I just don't understand how they could put this one into musical form.
Then again, few of us probably thought Dirty Rotten Scoundrels would make an interesting musical. I just don't want this to be a Sunset Boulevard where a crappy musical taints the image of a beloved film.

They've workshopped it a couple of times recently and from what I've heard it seems to be in great shape. Actors attached to it seem to be extremely enthusiastic about it and I believe the biggest hold up right now is theatre availabity. If a theatre frees up that is approriate for the show, it might possibly come in as soon as this summer
Please dear god don't let them destroy this. Possibly my favorite book and movie of all time, and the words The Musical make me want to puke.
From what I've heard on the demo it is quite good, Norbert Leo Butz, Sherie Rene Scott, and Julia Murney do a great job with it.

I do love the movie...but John Cusack will be forever in my mind in the lead role...
Think they can get Catherine to reprise her role???

I think Will Chase was involved in this in the past. I would love to see him in a new show. He's so talented.
