Hi everyone!
I have just had a fantastic afternoon at the UK tour of High Society. I really want to buy a recording of it. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

Posted: 5/21/05 at 1:45pmI'm partial to the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Nothing beats Sinatra, Crosby, Armstrong and Kelly.

I liked the Broadway production. I don't believe many others did.
I bought the t-shirt though I no longer have it and never bought the OBCR. Funny reference to it in FB Cleans Up It's Act.

Posted: 5/22/05 at 8:20amObviously, I am fond of the Broadway cast recording (for obvious reasons!). Melissa is great on it, but the show was totally choppy. It pretty much became a grab-bag of Cole Porter tunes, plucked from different shows that he had written. Still, it's worth buying for Melissa's gorgeous voice.

Posted: 5/22/05 at 1:48pmI really like the OLC recording with Natasha Richardson and Stephen Rea. Unfortunately it's hard to find with probably little chance of being re-issued but I much prefer it to the Broadway cast or soundtrack recording.

The movie soundtrack (on Capitol, but now out-of-print) with Crosby and Sinatra has plenty of sparkle packed into its 33 minutes. DRG's Broadway cast CD has a great cast struggling to make the show work. Still, it does offer a choice cut: Randy Graff's take on "He's a Right guy." The performance on stage was about as bubbly as flat ginger ale! (The matinee I caught had an understudy replacing Melissa Errico, though I doubt that made much of a difference.)
The London cast (EMI) is more readily found on Lp - the CD is quite scarce. Don't pay an inflated price for it but if one should surface at your local used CD store it's worth a listen.
TH PHILADELPHIA STORY ought to make a great stage musical. All one has to do is follow the original script letting the songs punctuate the action. (Not too many of them or they slow down the comedy.) It may never be a fully integreated show, but if done right it could be a great show.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
