It seems that ticket availability for The History Boys is better for matinees, but I also want to stage door afterwards. Does the entire cast come out after matinees? Also, it was mentioned before that very close seats are partially obstructed. How far back does that go -- how are seats in Rows C, for example? Is it worse on the sides or is there also a problem in the center?
Don't know about the seats, I had SRO. But with the stage door they will all come out together and do so about 5-10 minutes after the show ends. Its crazy with all of them together, but lets just say it makes for interesting conversations!
I'd say avoid the side seats if you can. I read that even as far back as row C had some problems (and especially the far side seats on the house left side that are obstructed by a piano). I sat in the first row just across the aisle on the right side and it definitely obstructed in the classroom scenes, but it wasn't a big deal for me, having only paid $25. If you're paying full price though, I'd opt for farther back and closer to center if at all possible.
I also noticed that the cast came out after the Saturday matinee that I went to. It was raining out, so I didn't stick around, but I saw Russell Tovey, Samuel Barnett, and Sacha Dhawan floating around and they seemed more than happy to sign. There weren't any barricades or anything, so it seemed a bit chaotic (and I'd imagine if they all kind of flow out en masse that could be...interesting).
ETA: How was SRO? Were you in the center or on the side (the side spots looked kind of ratty...the wall was really high)?? And how early did you arrive at the box office??
mabel...I got the tickets at noon for a satruday evening performance (it was the second preview). The wall is very high, so if you're short, it may be a problem! After intermission though, we were able to snag seats in the sixth row :) I really wanna go back and see this show again!!!
Hmmm...I wonder if I get there right for 10 if they work from the center out (the center SRO looked less high, but the wall right when you go in, by the merch, was ridiculously high!)
My mom's coming to town next week, and I think we may try for SRO at History Boys and then I'd rush for us to see Inishmore (that's the priority though, since I'm going to ruin the show for her if she doesn't see it soon!). I definitely want to bring her to HB too though at some point, though we're both kind of on the short side. Hmmm...Thanks for the info!
no problem...yeah we had the ones right by merch!! it wasn't a bother for me becuae I'm 5'9", but my friend was like on her tiptoes the entire time almost! Hope your mom enjoys the show!!

Sorry to bump this up, but has anybody been to the stage door recently? Does everybody still come out? Are they good with taking pictures?

I was at the stage door yesterday afternoon. They all come out, most within 5 minutes of the show ending. There were people still streaming out by the time the actors exited. They're all very nice and stick around to sign. Richard Griffiths makes it seem like the experience pains him, but he does it none the less and is extremely gracious.
They all take pictures, except Griffiths. He has said in interviews that he's stopped taking them after he found they wind up on ebay.
The only one who snuck away was Stephen Campbell Moore.
They have magnets, I believe. Don't hold me to that, though.

What exactly is the SRO policy? How much are the tickets? How many do they sell? Do they sell them in advance and, if so, how far in advance or only the day of the show? Do they sell them for all performances or only like Tuesday-Thursday? Thanks so much.
