Hmm what to see, what to do? Help!

I've posted on the off topic board about what to all do in NYC when I go in about a week and a half, but now I need help with shows! I feel like a child lost in a grocery store because I have no clue what to do or see! This will be my third time in NYC so I'm familiar with the city but this time I have two others with me and it's their first time in the city and I wan their trip to be very special. They have never seen a broadway show before ( I think the closest has been the high school production of The Wizard of Oz) so they are definitley new, I just don't know what to see! I like the more rock musicals like spring awakening and rent, but I also like the big musicals, so I was maybe thinking hair,in the heights, 9 to 5, billy elliot? I wanna see at least two shows, but we are kind of on a budget. So any suggestions on what to see is GREATLY appreciated! Also anyone familiar with the stand by lines to the talk shows? What are the "easiest" to get? Thank you so much!

Go see:
HAIR
BILLY ELLIOT
NEXT TO NORMAL
IN THE HEIGHTS
and/or
9 TO 5

Any combination of those should be good. HAIR is incredible in every way, BILLY ELLIOT and NEXT TO NORMAL are masterpieces, IN THE HEIGHTS is flawed but a lot of fun and really well-produced, and 9 TO 5 is pure unadulterated joy.

Have a fun trip! re: Hmm what to see, what to do? Help!

Oh and if you have any interest in seeing a straight play, see REASONS TO BE PRETTY!

Hair and Next To Normal are a complete MUST. if you can only see 2 go for those. if you want to see a play God of Carnage. if you have room for more musicals i'd go with In The Heights and Billy Elliot.

DEFINITELY go see Hair!! I REALLY love the score for In The Heights, much more than 9 tp 5.. and In the Heights is better written than 9 to 5. I say go with those with ITH and Hair for sure.
