Craig Revel Horwood has joined the new Annie UK tour as Miss Hannigan.
Thoughts?????
I personally love the idea of Miss Hannigan being played by a man in drag!

Craig is fantastic! This is a must see for me, I hope they base it on the Broadway revival.
I have always thought it would be interesting to see man in drag playing Miss Hannigan.

They did it before with Paul O'Grady's drag persona Lily Savage but he was already an established Drag act so it kind of took over the essence of the character itself in my opinion.

this is AWESOME!!
It's a good thing there are already lots of other meaty roles for female actors over 40. You go, Craig!

Hmm. I've never heard of this happening before, so color me at the very least 'intrigued'.

^ Agreed! Ridiculous and why? Of course any role could be played by any sex but, again, why?

Will it be good? Probably. Is it taking the job away from talented women? Yes.

@Wilmington: Were you meaning to reply to my comments with the '^'? Because if you were, what I said is not even remotely like what you said.

No, I was replying to nonlightsxo but you must have beat me to the post.

He/she didn't post until AFTER my post, so I'm not sure how you could be replying to him/her in the fashion you did.

So sorry, I was replying to theeatah who said "It's a good thing there are already lots of other meaty roles for female actors over 40." That's what I was agreeing with.
As long as he plays a convincing woman- This is awesome!!!

He does evil women VERY well. Scarily well.
I would say anyone, man or woman, trying to take the place of Dorothy Loudon is in for an uphill battle.
^ I was waiting for it (someone to say it)- took longer then i expected. We know, we know...

And while I agree that Loudon is a hard act to follow, it doesn't mean the musical should never be produced again. I do, however, resent a man taking this good role away from a woman. There are plenty of other roles Horwood could play.

Wait and see how he does before you start saying he shouldn't be playing the part just because of sex.

I'm sure he'll be great but there are a lot more roles for men than for women so I consider it a bit selfish. Just MHO.
^ could be, but you all get the great ones.

Not sure what you mean by "you." I'm not an actor.
I think the "you" was referring to women, who get all the most juicy Musical Theatre roles. I don't know what led him to believe you were a woman, however.
I just assumed because... well, i just assumed. LOL

There are men who champion women getting great roles, too.
