Well...I was a summer theatre camp and my friends played the Cd 24-7 and were acting out the roles in the show...originally I didn't like the show because of the subject matter..but then I started listening to it more and then I was HOOKED....I stood in line for 2hrs before the show to get front row seats..and I did...me and my mom went to see the show..and she became a true RENThead..you should see her screensaver at work...she bawled through the whole show..and gave the cast a standing ovation after every song...Me and her LOVED it..she even started singing the songs after the show...I mean at first I was alittle worried about taking her because of the subject matter...but it she LOVED it and so did I and blasted the Cds in my car.

Basic thing is, in Freshman year, High School (last year), I decided to try out for a play, and acting was such a rush to me. So I started getting more into theater, and a few months later, one of my more theater oriented friends gave me OSG for an audition piece for an upcoming musical, as I couldn't find a good one for me. Ever since, I've been listening to RENT avidly, but cannot see it live (so sue me, I live in Southern Illinois and have conservative parents. What do you expect). Right now I'm only 15, so I can't really raise funds to see it myself. However, this show has made connections deeper than it seemed, as the whole message is made glaringly obvious to me. I can really empathize with many of the feelings of RENT, as my dad is currently fighting a downhill battle with cancer, and I guess it serves as a way to 'sing my sorrows' out.

Yeah...So that's my story...And I consider myself as big a RENThead as one can be in my position, and spreading RENT around as much as possible.

My sophomore year of high school, my now best friend loved the show and was playing it for some of the other kids in the drama dept. I've loved it since then.

I was getting out of a Saturday matinee of Chicago and I saw the poster. I remember saying to my parents "the show looks sort of stupid". Then, a few months later, I was on amazon.com and I saw the cast recording and decided just to check it out. I fell in love with the Tango:Maureen. I couldn't stop listening to it. I memorized every second of any sample clips I could find online becasue I wasn't able to buy the cd. One day I was at the library and I was flipping through the cd's really fast and I saw RENT. I was like "Oh my God! They have it!" A few people were staring becasue I kind of screamed a little re: How did you become a RentHEAD? . When I first listened to the cd, my mind was very mixed up. I thought that the picture of Mimi was Maureen, the picture of Idina was Joanne, I really thought Angel was a girl, and I couldn't tell the difference between Anthony and Adam. I finally got it when I found BWW and became a memeber. RENT has really had a great influence on my life, despite my younger age. MY new goal in life is to spread the love just like Angel did. Everyone he had ever met, he touched, and I feel like we were put on this Earth to do just that. I really hope that the movie will let more people see that.

Yeah, especially Evita. re: How did you become a RentHEAD?

Just kidding - that's a very nice story and I am glad you ended up giving the show a chance.

Hi--I've been enjoying the banter around these message boards for a while, and got up the courage to register and send my first post. I figured my first reply would be in a RENT thread, since its my favorite show out of the many I'm acquainted with. I became a RentHEAD when I listened to the whole 2 disc set on the way back from a trip, and was hooked ever since. I didn't get to see the show until two years after that, and the road "downhill" has had me grinning from ear to ear :)
