Has anyone answered this before? I'm curious how in context I'm supposed to believe he did it.
Magic.

Ventriloquism. He is able to project his voice into different parts of the theater. That's why many people think he's in one corner when he's in another.
In the film version, he puts something into her water or whatever she uses for her voice and that makes it do that.
A wizard did it.
^ I was actually considering wizards.
The Wizard couldn't accomplish it on his own. It was the Wizard and Iiiiiiiiiiii-eeyiiiiii!
In the film, it was an elixir; in the book (if I remember right) it was ventriloquism; but on the stage, it always seemed like sheer magic to me, and honestly, I like magic best. =)
