And any idea how it'll be in 3 weeks when the "big names" are no longer there?
How's the SRO view anyway?

Posted: 4/2/06 at 7:39amI think it's gonna be just as popular without the "big names." Yes, I believe that the "big names" have helped draw a crowd, but I think Monty Python is enough to sell the show.

Posted: 4/4/06 at 3:04pmI think it will do fine without the big name stars. I first went because of Monty Python, not the stars. In fact, Hank Azaria was out the first time I saw it & I saw it again when he came back & didn't see a huge difference. It's just so funny!! I did SRO & it is great. Ticket sales are still practically sold out for most of the spring & probably the summer. I will see again with the new cast.

Posted: 4/8/06 at 11:24amJust as an FYI to those of you who are going to try for Spmalot SRO post David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria: I got to the box office today at 7:30am and was first in line. The next people didn't show up until 9:40am. Looks like the demand for SRO has gone way down since last week. I was shocked that there was nobody there...especially on a weekend (although it was raining and kind of cold this morning). I'll be at today's matinee! I haven't seen the show since NY previews and am excited to see how it's holding up.

Saw today's matinee. The show is still is good shape. Audiences are LOVING it. It was mostly tourists at the show today.
Chris Sieber, Michael McGrath and Christian Borle are all in excellent shape. No signs of boredom (who could get bored doing this show anyway?) and all three were hilarious. The two newest members of the cast, Martin Moran and Steve Kazee (absolutely adorable), were just as good as David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria. Both had great comedic timing. Martin brought the house down with "You Won't Succeed on Broadway" as did Steve with "His Name is Lancelot." In my opinion, Simon Russell Beale was better than Tim Curry. I thought he was funnier and has a better voice. Upon second viewing, I really appreciated the book. Even though the "stars" (Curry, Pierce, Azaria) were gone, the material was still a laugh a minute and had me in stitches the entire show.
Now on to what you've all been waiting for...Lauren Kennedy. Honestly, when I saw the show in previews, I remember saying to myself after the show was over "Sara made the show for me." Unfortunately, I was not saying that this afternoon. Lauren has a great voice and she is gorgeous and she was fine, but I just didn't get that same feeling I did after I saw Sara's performance. After this afternoon's performance, I feel like the Lady of the Lake is a very underwritten part...Sara just made it a starring role with her presence. Was Lauren god awful in the role (as some have said about her)? No. Was she miscast? Yes. I don't think anyone will be able to replace Sara in this role.
Overall, the show is in great shape and it will continue to run for years. I definitely enjoyed myself and I'm glad I got to see Simon Russell Beale before he left.
Now off to try the DRS lottery for tonight!

Posted: 4/8/06 at 7:02pmThe box office guy said the line's been starting at about 9ish. There were plenty of SRO tickets for tonight's show when I went in around noon.
