How long do you think the current Broadway revival of Steel Magnolias will last? With zero Tony nominations and with it not playing to a very packed house every night, how much steam is left for the current Magnolias revival?

Depends on how low their break even figure is. They'll probably try and hold on for the tourist season as they are probably hoping the recognisability factor from the movie will have the out of towners flocking to it. If that doesn't come to pass, then it will probably shutter before the end of the summer.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I don't think Tony nominations or wins would have helped this production. It's best publicity is the recognition factor. I also assume they are going to try to make it through the tourist season and they may well, but I don't see them lasting very far into the fall.

I saw the production a month ago, about three weeks after it opened, and the theater was half-full at best. I really don't think it can hold on for much longer.

I loved this production, personally. Thought it had its flaws casting wise etc etc but as a whole, the director, scenic designer, costume designer, etc did what they could and then some with a so-so script. The show as a whole was very good but I dont think it will be able to stay open for very much longer which is saddening. I thoroughly enjoyed this production but give it about a month or two before it closes.

I predict it will post a closing notice on June 6, and close on June 12.

I swear to God, it better not. I'm coming to NYC for six weeks starting around June 20th or so and I need to see it before it closes. My sisters and I have an unhealthy obsession with Steel Magnolias and we are itching to see it like you would not believe. We'll be there at the Lyceum, reciting the entire script along with the cast... in our heads, of course!

Since Steel Magnolias isn't dependent on Tony Awards (and wasn't nominated for any) why would it close the week after the Tonys? While it's not doing boffo business, I've heard they have decent enough sales in groups to carry it through the summer.

I'm surprised it has lasted this long frankly. I went fairly early on in the production...the balcony was fairly dead. I was disappointed in the production...I posted a review quite a while ago.

With the exception of the outstanding Francis Sternhagen, I got the impression word of mouth wasn't good. I thought Lily Rabe acquited herself well. Delta Burke and Marsha Mason were only competent. Rebecca Gayheart, I felt, was over her head. I realize Christine Ebersole has many fans here, and after the Amy McAlexander wars, I'll tread softly but Ms. Ebersole overall did not impress me.

SPOILER:

Just in case you don't know the story:
Particularily, the "my daughter is dead" monologue was weak. I thought her delivery was very staccato with no emotional impact. Through the whole play M'Lynn is in control, a total control freak, or at least that's her objective. Here, she is supposed to lose control and Ms. Ebersole's dilvery was just way too "Joe Friday" for my tastes. For my taste. In my opinion.
