Wow Princeton.Just wow. I've been relatively luck with understudies except whoever was playing Boq when I saw Wicked was out.

I seem to see a lot of understudies and get confused quite often as we don't get the understudy slips here (in England) and there are rarely announcements meaning i have to rely on what i see in the foyer.

Wicked
Cassidy Janson for Elphaba, Nadine Cox for Madame Morrible and Elinor Collett for Midwife, I didn't recognise quite a few people and the cast in all was about 4 people less than normal - a very interesting day.
Another time i saw Shona White for Elphaba (her first performance) and Annalene Beechey for Galinda (who i knew would be on).

Blood Brothers
The normal Mrs Johnstone was out and all the female parts seemed to shift up so about 4 people were played by understudies

Rocky Horror Show
The first time i saw it Frank (David Badella) was out so he was played by Matthew Cole (Brad) and an understudy played Brad.
The second time i saw it Janet (Suzzane Shaw) was played by Sarah Boulton (Columbia) who was played by Lauren Appleby. Riff Raff was played by Stuart Ellis which left them short a phantom so for one part a tech guy was on stage.

Phantom of the Opera
I saw understudies for the Phantom, Raoul and one of the owners (Firman or Andre)

The Woman in White
The first time I saw it Michael Crawford (Fosco) had already finished (I didn't know at the time) and Maria Freidman (Marian) was out.

And i have seen many shows with one understudy. The thing that annoys me is they don't really tell you when there is an understudy on here (except Wicked which always has signs)

moat in one show- 4 in the wicked tour
Victoria Matlock as elphaba(her first performance ever in the role)
Emily Rozek as glinda (who up until this point was the only understudy i had ever seen in a show when she went on as millie in TMM)
Nicolas Dromard as Fiyero
and Chris Russo as Dr.Dillamond
It took until intermission to figure out who the hell was dillamond since the playbill said Tim Britten Parker, there was a huge insert that said k. todd freeman was in, then another slip that said it was chris russo.

"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel

I'm working at the Majestic, and there hasn't been a night in the 3 weeks I've been there that there aren't at least 2 understudies. Janet Saia, who is the swing, has played up to 4 different parts in one week. Including Carlotta and Madame Giry.

I killed the boss, you don't think they're gonna fire me over a thing like that!!!!

Wow it seems like these longer-running shows, such as Phantom and Beauty, sometimes have more understudies at one time. Although Les Mis always seems to have the most intersting stories. Keep the understudy listing coming!

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

i remember seeing Tarzan once when a few cast members had been sent to some group sales promotional thing (i think in another country) so there were all sorts of swings and understudies on.

also recently went to Hairspray where if one more male ensemble member had been out, one of the boy tracks wouldve had to have been turned into a girl.

Bump! This is my favorite thread in a long time.

I have heard of a few times when Hairspray has been low on girls, but never guys!
