I am going to New York in February. I'm planning on seeing "August: Osage County", "In The Heights", and "Billy Elliot." I don't have tickets for any of these yet though. I'm trying to figure out the best way to guarantee that I see these shows, while paying the least amount of money. Could someone explain how "rush" works at each of these shows? For instance, I'm wondering how many tickets you can get, how much they cost, and how early I would need to get to the theatres Also, is it a bad idea to only use rush? Should I book tickets, or is it a good chance that I'll be able to get in?

I really appreciate all of your answers!

Well, In the Heights doesn't have a rush, it has a lotto, so if you want to GUARANTEE yourself a seat, don't rely on that because there aren't many tickets and there are usually a lot of people there. I'd advise looking for discounts on the internet. The only way to Guarantee tickets is to by them well in advance. otherwise, its all up to luck.

If you are planning to see Billy Elliot in February, I would try to find tickets asap (if you even can). The show has been selling out nightly and I am almost positive that its pretty hard to find tickets for the next month or two. Also, they have no discounts so your best bet would be to get rear mezzanine seats if you can find them. It is a great view and they are 41.50 each. Enjoy!

BILLY ELLIOT has no rush or lottery. You're going to have to pay full price. You can either buy far in advance, or buy on the day of the performance, a few hours before curtain when the premium seats are released for full price, to get the best seats. February is going to be an easy month to get tickets.

IN THE HEIGHTS has a lottery two hours prior to curtain for front row Orchestra seats. Names are taken two and a half hours prior to curtain, and the drawing is two hours prior. Two tickets per winner, $26.50 per ticket. If you lose, make sure you bring a printout of a discount code with you, and you can buy tickets at the box office with that, or just go to TKTS and see if it's on there, and get tickets that way.

AUGUST has a student rush. One ticket per ID. $29.50 per ticket. They go on sale when the box office opens, and the seats are in the Rear Mezzanine. You should have no trouble at all in February landing a rush ticket to this show.
