Does anyone other than me think that Hugh Jackman has a wonderful voice?!?!? I honestly think that depending on Hugh's vocal range, he might be able to play The Phantom on Broadway one day (I thought that he should have been the Phantom in the movie)!!! Who knows, just a thought off of the top of my head!
See Ya!!!

Are there recordings of him singing out there anywhere on the net? I wasn't really impressed with the little snippet on the Tony's but it wasn't quite a rangeful song.

I agree that the song he sang at the TONYS was pretty range-less, but you could definitly tell that he has quite a voice. I would enjoy hearing him perform "Music Of The Night", and see what he can really do!

Posted: 6/19/03 at 10:27amI think he can also be heard on a CD of Debra Byrne's (Australia's Norma) doing a duet from Sunset Boulevard.

Posted: 6/19/03 at 10:56amI think he would be great on the Phantom. He maybe should also be Gaston on Broadway. He could actually play a lot of roles!
#10re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Hugh Jackman.............
Posted: 6/19/03 at 10:57amI doubt that he would take on a role that has been done previously by another actor in a current production.

YES! Hugh is fabulous in OKLAHOMA!
You can buy the video on ebay, incidentally. I did, and it was worth every penny. Every fan of the musical theater should get it.
Why waste Hugh on the lousy music in PHANTOM? It's so sad that that show has had such a long run, and that it is such a phenomenon -- when it really just stinks. Don't get me wrong ... I'm glad that it has given so many people in the business actual jobs (including many friends) -- but there are FAR superior shows out there that just don't have the marketing blitz or hype. Tourists flock to see it, because they think they're supposed to love it, when in reality, they're just bored and feel like they have to rave about it because they just shelled out $100 for over-amped noise. (Granted, the design elements are impressive.) When you sit thru a three hour musical that has three songs repeated over and over again it gets a little taxing. It's all spectacle and no substance.
ANYWAY ... back to the man of the hour ... HUGH!
Can't wait for the BOY FROM OZ. And I'm doubly glad that Jarrod Emick is playing his boyfriend. Good casting!

Ok, Piglet, what's truly scary is that I totally "got" that reference you used!! But then again, that's kinda normal for us, isn't it? LOL! And yes, you know I'm every bit as excited as you for this show. We've both been anxiously awaiting Mr. Emick's return to the boards, but of course...."Whatever Piglet wants, Piglet gets...."

Posted: 6/20/03 at 3:19amHave you heard the Original Australian Cast CD of Boy From OZ? He isn't on it of course but it gives you a good idea of what you'll be hearing (music wise).

No! Have not heard that music.
How is it? Is it all Peter Allen's music, or is there an original score intertwined with his stuff?
Any idea how the book is?

It's all Peter Allen music...stuff he wrote and stuff he collaborated with others as well.
I have heard that they may be taking out "I Still Call Australia Home" but again...its not definite.

Posted: 6/20/03 at 7:08amfrom what I have heard, it is still in the show, but it isn't the huge production number seen in Australia.
