Hugh Jackman is a true Hollywood insider (unlike many previous comedian-hosts who come from other branches of the performing arts). He has shown versatility in many movie genres ( action, romantic comedy, drama) and is of course a well known musical theatre talent.

Let's hope the revised Oscar awards format will showcase not just his hosting ability ( TONYs, A Fine Romance Event, the Entertainment Night for the recent political summit in Sydney of Pacific countries, the Fox Studios-Sydney opening event) but also his award-winning musical theatre talent.

Plus he is not bad to look at!

I read that headline and screamed "THANK GOD" because my subconscious told my brain it said the "TONY's" and then I saw this thread title.

Oh, YESSSS! This will be the zippiest Oscarcast in years, mark my words. Hugh knows how to anchor an event and keep it crackling. He's got elegance, style and a great sense of humor. Excellent choice. I hope Hugh does double duty with the Tonys in '09, too.
