re: Hugh Panaro: Really?

I've seen Panaro live in three very different shows: MERRILY; CALL ME, MADAM; and MARTIN GUERRE. Different styles, very different characterizations.

He was great in all three. It's a shame he hasn't yet originated a role in a hit show, the kind of gig that would make him a household name.

Hugo! What the...?
Anyhow, good to see him back.

btw, This thread got me interested, and I looked up his bio stuff. Seems like a really cool guy, from Phily, and loves animals (once thought about being a vet), and I like that picture of him at Broadway Barks.

re: Hugh Panaro: Really?

Hugo? Good catch -- I didn't notice it at first.

I've seen Hugh four times now as the Phantom. I've often said that I disagree with his usual characterization, because he tends to play the Phantom as too remote for my taste. He was a lot more energetic at the 25th Anniversary performance, and I really liked that characterization -- I just don't see the Phantom as observing things from a distance.

I'd sure love to meet Hugh -- he's a huge supporter of animal rights, and I've heard he's a really nice guy towards people, as well. However, I think he's doomed to having people mess up his name -- CBS news some years ago referred to him as "Hugh Parano," which, I suppose, is better than "Hugh Piranha." Now, he's Hugo. Hopefully, they get it right on his paychecks....
