'rip your nose apart'
Somebody brought the booger sugar and didn't tell me!?!?
SHARE IT, BITCHES!!!
I don't even do that - people like Suleen and Namo have both pointed out (in the past) that because I'm young, gay, and go party a lot that MUST mean I'm a cokehead.
And I'd like to point out that everyone who indulges in 'party favors' sometimes doesn't make them a druggie!

You have a tendency to sound like you're bragging about going to the parties, Munk, which is decidedly tacky. And if you don't think you do it, please note that you immediately went to the "I have a feeling that people are jealous that they couldn't go to the party" line.
LOTS of us go to every single opening night party. Many of us recognize you from your old icon. But do we point you out to each other and dis you behind your back at the parties? Of course we do.
i can't believe that some people can be so vicious. if i've learned anything here at bww.com it's that a person is entitled to as many opinions as they want on whatever subject they choose and that everyone must, i repeat must, respect them no matter what they may be. this trend of attacking the innocent for no reason other than the mere lust for cyber bloodsport is even more heinous than fox hunting and should be banned here at bww and its practitioners given severe tongue lashings! sueleen you're just a big bully.
now about the peruvian marching dust...
"You have a tendency to sound like you're bragging about going to the parties, Munk"
Namo - that is incredibly not true. You might percieve it that way, but it's not how I intended it. I don't even talk about going to parties - I mentioned DEMOCRACY and then I asked Heather if she was gpoing last night, because I know if someone went to a Broadway party I wasn't at, I would want to hear about it. I wasn't BRAGGING at all. Why would I brag? To say that I have friends that invite me to these things? That doesn't make ME any greater or more special. It's not like I'm in all these shows...so please, I'm gaining NOTHING by bragging, if in fact you think that's what I'm doing.
First of all Munk, you are assuming that I have friends. And that my friends go to parties. If this were the case OF COURSE I would be at every single one of them, looking for free stuff, checking out all the hunky men, trying to get a job...but, alas, I have no true friends. Someone to whom I could say, "Gee, Hank, thanks for the invite, but I really didn't care for your show that much. In fact I have been putting it down on the internet and was really glad it got such crappy reviews. I just wouldn't feel comfortable there tonight. But let's get together for coffee sometime, okay? I know you would understand. Now go have fun at your party and call me later."
Gee I wish I had friends like that.

See, the burden of proof is on the communicator. Whether or not that's what you intended that's how it comes off. And the fault is the way in which you write it.

Hey, I freely admit it! I'm jealous! My boyfriend loves SPAM, too! And it's like $4 a can. I have to ration him.
But, I wasn't attacking- I was really curious. Can you enjoy a party if it's in honor of a show you dislike? I know I'd have a ROTTEN time at the Rick Santorum Election night party no matter how many free cans of Spam I took home. I can't imagine there would be any bolivian wacky poweder there.
Sueleen:
-I don't go to parties "looking for free stuff"
-I don't go to parties to look for a job (?)
-I haven't been putting this show down - I said I didn't love
it. Please. Enough.
-I can't be really glad because it got really crappy reviews -
because - clearly, if you had read them, the show got mixed/mostly positive reviews, so it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to be
happy that they got bad reviews - because they didn't. And if they had, I wouldn't be rejoicing...
Now Suleen, you might not have friends like that, but I guess I'm also not the upstanding person and citizen of the world like you are.
Why does an opinion of a show have to be directly tied to an opinion of party that someone's friends are also attending? Give me a break. One has nothing to do with the other.
Back in my partying days, I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening and subsequent party of IMPOSSIBLE MARRIAGE by Beth Henley and starring Holly Hunter, Lois Smith and the delectable Jon Tenney. I was not a fan of the show (though there were some nice moments), but the party was a BLAST. I ended up sitting at a table filled with lovely, Southern women. Turns out, they were Ms. Henley's sister. Yes. I sat at the same table with the women who were the inspiration for the sisters in CRIMES OF THE HEART.
AND F*CK YOU, I AM BRAGGING!
Actually, I'd say they were mixed to bad but I digress.
Joe:
I wasn't referring to you. I don't dislike the show at all, I never said that. It's very FUN, it's just not what I call a good show. A good show to me is something with depth and meaning - but Spamalot can still be FUN. I don't dislike the show!
y'know what, joe, methinks somebody's a little too bashful about their role as the "big dog" at the santorum bash. i mean i don't know what was going on in that back room, but i saw more than a few "aides" wander out walking funny and wiping their noses. i'm just saying.

Munk -
First, you say this:
"I could NOT disagree more with the very positive review."
Then, you say this:
"I very much agree with those reviews."
in response to this other post:
"I'd say the Talkin' Broadway review was more of a pan...he called it unispired...and didn't even like Sara Ramirez, whom everyone seemed to like in this show.."
How, exactly, is this not supposed to be interpreted as you not liking the show?

OK Papa, you got me. I did have alittle fun at that Santorum rally. See, I can never turn down the opportunity to do to a Republican what they are doing to the country!
It's hard to explain, but I'll try. It's possible to like a bad show. It's possible to hate an amazing show.
For example, I love TABOO and I saw it on Broadway 14 times. IS the show good? NO! Is it great? Obviously not. It was a guilty pleasure, but I found something in it very enjoyable and reassuring.
With DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, I think it's HYSYERICAL and I love it. But is it a great show? No, not really. But I still love it.
With SPAMALOT, it's in no way a great show. It's not well written, it's decently acted, it's pretty uninspired, but I Love Monty Python and it was a joy to see my favorite story on stage, no matter how lacking I found it. So although I might be judging SPamalot very harshly because I love MP so much and expected so much, that doesn't mean I dont like it. It's not a good show at all, but I like it.
When reviewing a show, I think it's important for critics to only write about THE SHOW. Not whether they enjoyed it or not - which is what Ben Brantley does, and that's why I enjoy him so much. No matter how much he laughed and tapped his foot at DRS, in the end, it's not a great show, and he wrote the review accordingly. I believe that's how it should be done - don't write a rave review for a mediocre show because it was funny. I dont know if any of that made sense to you. But even if it doesn't, I still don't understand why all of you are so concerned about what I do.
Although, in true Brantley passive agressive form, I wouldn't exactly be thrilled about what he said about me if I were Ramirez. What was it..."The toothsome, scenery devouring"...not very flattering. But again, I digress. I guess I'm doing reverse threadjacking.
you're just not happy unless you're jacking something are ya, al?
have i told you lately that you're a damn handsome man and that i love you dearly?
Well, not lately, but that just made up for it. And might I be so bold as to say, right back at ya!
be bold, be bold!
So wait.
No one brought blow?
You guys f*cking suck.
"When reviewing a show, I think it's important for critics to only write about THE SHOW. Not whether they enjoyed it or not"
So true. And as that is what you did, I don't see what the problem is... Not that this is any of my buisness, so maybe I shouldn't be sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong.. But Munk does make sense.
