I Am My Own Wife is a fantastic show. I know most of you have already hopped on this bandwagon, however I just caught up. I absolutely loved it. I just saw it last night and the glow is still lingering.
Jefferson Mays was truly outstanding - completely deserving of the Tony for “Best Actor” in 2003. He was riveting on stage and delightful in the post show discussion. (I was lucky to see a performance with a "talk back". That's not the norm for this production.) I have to give him credit for keeping his performance fresh - excellent all around. The physical production was lovely. The play itself is very funny and, also, moving.
Any gay man or lesbian should definitely try to catch this before it leaves San Diego. It’s a piece of gay history that needs to be shared. It is not just a "gay" play, of course, it speaks to a much wider audience. It plays until September 11th at the La Jolla Playhouse.
I believe this has recently played in Los Angeles and San Francisco, so it might be the last chance to see it before it heads out to regions unknown.
* I seem to be posting a lot over here. I hope that's not a problem, but I do kind of like having a little "west coast" board. (Sorry, to disagree with you eslgr8 on that count.) *
