BIG OL' SHILL ALLERT HERE: I know both Keith David and the show's conductor Jeff Klitz.
Saw "Hot Feet" last night. Here are my thoughts:
I literally gasped at all the beautiful bodies in motion on that stage, & I was exhausted by the evening's end just watching them. Felt the choreography showed off the dancers beautifully.
Ann Duquesnay has vocal cords of steel and an incredibly soulful voice.
As far as I'm concerned, Keith David can sell tickets to sing the phone book & I'll be there. He & Ann D sounded great in their duet.
Allen Hidalgo is appropriately funny & smarmy, & played his part of Mephistofoles to the hilt.
Wynonna Smith, woo that lady can move & she looks reminiscent of Tina Turner in her TT wig.
Michael Balderrama as Anthony made a good & sympathetic dancing partner & love interest for Vivian Nixon in a role that could have been very boring in less capable hands.
Vivian Nixon can move parts of her body that I didn't know could move. Her dancing is perfected to the nth degree. I actually feel that this can be said of all the dancers in the show. They seem to love being on that stage, & it showed, including little Samantha Pollino. & I don't want to fail to mention a little movement by Mr. David, to boot.
I am intentionally staying away from discussing the book/dialogue & miking, as the show hasn't opened yet.
But, chil'en, if you loves you some great music, great dancin' & singin', get yo'sefs down to the Hilton Theatre to catch this show!
Here endeth today's sermon....

Posted: 4/26/06 at 11:54amMichael Balderrama was excellent in "Saturday Night Fever", "Urban Cowboy" on Broadway and as Bernardo in "West Side Story" in San Jose. Now that I know he is in "Hot Feet", I might have to go see it.

kalimba, whatever anybody thinks or writes, there's 2 things that can't be dinged: the singing and the dancing.
Yup, I liked the show.

Yup, and the same Keith David who won an Emmy for his voiceover for "Unforgiveable Blackness: The Rise & Fall of Jack Johnson" as well as tons of films.
Keith also saved Charlie Sheen's life while making "Platoon."
"Following the 1986 film Platoon, Charlie Sheen - who starred in the films - did a TV interview and credits Keith David with saving his life. While shooting dailies in an open doored Huey gunship, the helicopter banked too hard and Sheen was thrown towards - and would have gone through - the open door. Keith David grabbed Sheen by the back and pulled him back in."
My kinda guy!

Posted: 4/26/06 at 5:33pmWhen I saw the show Keith David was walking thru it stumbling over lines as if he had never even rehearsed. The dancers are wonderful--the choreography is hideous. The onstage singers are wonderful--their songs are awful. The hit songs that we know and love are sung my mediocre pit singers. This, combined with the worst book in Broadway history, makes for a wretched evening that should be avoided by all.

EW, I certainly appreciate reading your opinion.
It is my understanding that Keith joined the show just before it opened in D.C. I saw the show last night & my comments reflect what I saw.
I chose my words & topics very carefully, as I believe a show should have every chance before it opens. Would that all understood this simple concept.

Is this another "Lestat" thread?

EW, I seem to recall having enjoyed reading some of your posts before this one, so I'm disappointed to read what you write in this thread.
Please note that I use my own name when I post and write very carefully & responsibly, especially when writing about potentially controversial shows & when performers' livelihoods are at stake. I feel that when a poster makes sweeping negative statements, it leaves that poster open to all sorts of questions. It also makes me think that there's a good chance that I'll read any future posts by that person & say to myself "an opinion w/o a real name attached to it holds no weight for me."
