re: Giving flowers at the curtain call? Sep 23 2009, 12:56:48 PM
I think it's also worth mentioning that there are a lot of people who are anti-cut flowers out there. I have heard friends and celebs say that they find them wasteful, even depressing (watching them die). You may have that sweet, "I'll never forget this" stagedoor moment of handing your favorite B'way star flowers, then read a month later in some Playbill interview that such and such just *hates* it when fans give her flowers. It looks nice on TV, but I have been on stage when people

Has a date been announced for the end of her run? I'd like to catch the show while she and Phylicia are still in it. I know Phylicia's last day is 8/23.

re: Have you ever seen a Broadway performer on the Subway? Oct 5 2008, 11:53:45 PM
One evening several months ago, I saw Tommy Tune walk down the stairs and onto the platform of the downtown 1/2/3 at Times Square. He was looking smart as usual in a blue suit and saddle shoes. After a few paces, he realized that he was on the wrong platform, did a kick ball change and headed back up the stairs. Okay, not a kick ball change, but a very graceful turn. I watched him walk towards the S and then he turned and disappeared down the stairs to the N/R/W. I was VERY surprised to see

re: Christine Ebersole to star in BLITHE SPIRIT Revival Oct 1 2008, 01:33:51 PM
Speaking of glamorous ghosts, does anyone remember the short-lived '80s sitcom "Jennifer Slept Here"? It starred Ann Jillian as a bodacious Bob Mackie-wearing ghost of a Hollywood star who was haunting the new inhabitants of her home. I was about 5 or 6 when this show was on, there's a bit of it on UTube. I think Seldes is a little too reserved for Mme Arcati. I'd say someone like Elizabeth Ashley or Kristine Nielsen, but perhaps those are obvious OTT scenery chewing choices. Maybe

DREAMGIRLS heading back to Broadway... Sep 15 2008, 03:09:19 PM
An EPA notice went up today. Vienna Waits is producing, no theatre is mentioned. Robert Longbottom is director/choreographer, Shane Sparks is co-choreographer, and Zane Mark is music director. The show will be newly choreographed and staged. All roles are available, and the first performance is slated for early November 2009.

re: reasons to be pretty Aug 18 2008, 06:47:27 PM
There's an EPA coming up on the 25th, they're also still looking to cast a key role and some understudies. There isn't even an official date for first rehearsal.

re: 'Soapdish the Musical' Question? May 6 2008, 05:37:02 PM
I agree LPF, I just don't think that a musical version could match the charm of the movie. It's a perfect movie imo, lush, campy, fun, great elements for a splashy Broadway musical. But the intimacy of film (or television) is needed to capture the greatness of all of those sneaky/hush-hush behind-the-scenes moments. I'd rather see a tv version, filmed half-hour comedy in the hands of people like those behind Arrested Development. Not holding my breath though.

re: TERRENCE HOWARD Apr 11 2008, 12:16:07 PM
On her infamous hotline, Robin Strasser mentions that she and her friend saw Cat this past weekend. As huge JEJ fans, they were very disappointed to learn that he would not be going on, but that his understudy (Count, though not mentioned by name) did a very fine job. The ladies were particularly impressed with Terrence and Phylicia.

According to IMDb, she is represented by Hartig Hilepo. You may try writing to her via her agency. Good luck!

re: What to wear to broadway... Mar 15 2008, 01:56:30 PM
And guys, you all should have a well-fitting black sportcoat/suit jacket in your wardrobe. Not a blazer mind you (double-breasted with fancy gold nautical buttons or anything like that), the simpler the better. Wearing one of these will immediately pull your look together (within reason)... very sleek with nice jeans or khakis/cords, and you can even get away with wearing a nice t-shirt (not a ratty Hanes) underneath. H&M always seems to offer a few inexpensive jackets. You may go for a subt

A note from the EPA casting notice: Please prepare a brief contemporary monologue in the style of the show. Monologues from the show (EXCEPT the “Beau Willie” monologue) are welcome.

re: punctuation in show titles Mar 11 2008, 04:15:35 AM
Foster, the film uses an i, not a ;... the play alternately uses the i and ;. I particularly remember the ; in advertisements when I became familiar with the play during Judy Light's tenure.

Debbie is no slouch, but BFF, you have a point about Wolf directing. I would love to see this piece, or any Williams for that matter, in his hands. So much I want to say about things discussed re: this revival, but I really need to see if before I start defending what may not need, or may not deserve defending.
