Hi All!

I know everyone knows that The Capeman OCB is available on iTunes. After hesitation (at the 11 million dollar loss) I purchased the recording. I just have to say I have not loved a cast recording this much, since Caroline, or Change and before that it was Ragtime. To me, Broadway has been so disappointing over the past ten years, with shows like The Lion King, Hairspray and Avenue Q (which I all enjoy) winning the public effection and critical praise (awards) over original, challenging and epic musicals, such as Ragtime, The Light in the Piazza and Caroline, or Change - that seem to have too short of lived runs.

The Capeman is another refreshing entry in that the music is like nothing I've ever heard on Broadway. The music, lyrics, performances and sound on this recording are all great. Such a refreshing entry. I've never seen the show, so I can't comment on the problems that caused it to close, but I am a huge fan of the recording. Always thrills me when I find something like this.

Any Capeman fans on here.

Well, it *is* Paul Simon, after all, and I dont think the man ever wrote a bad song a day in his life. If you liked CAPEMAN, hunt around for Hearts and Bones (and I could have that title wrong, but it's close). Gorgeous, gorgeous work.

I haven't listened to the album much, but I do enjoy it. It IS different from just about anything else out there.

Love it, love it, love it!

Trailways Bus, Chimes, end of Act 1, You F*ed up my Life- all incredible.

Losing Paul Simon from further Broadway ventures was a real shame.

I remember being very impressed with the music in the theatre and Bob Crowley's sets, but the show was a mess and when they brought in Jerry Zaks it was all downhill from there.
And then Paul Simon dissed the Broadway community and he was gone.
It is kind of a shame.

Do you think now there will be a CD?

I absolutely love the score, and you should definitely pick it up. It is a GREAT cd. The performers, sound, music...everything. It's beautiful and fun at times. I just love it so much...been a long time since I've fallen in love with a cast recording.

Same here.

I think it's one of the best Broadway music I've heard from pop composers in a long time (before I heard Spring Awakening, of course). Paul Simon is truly one of the best singer-songwriters of our time, and with the unique storytelling/lyric devices he had, you could tell he truly belonged on Broadway. And this was the closest he ever got... THE CAPEMAN Appreciation Thread I'm just relieved that this music and cast is preserved for all time. Love it.

I have been loving this music since I saw this show when it opened. I had been lucky enough to have gotten a copy of the OBC prior to its release as I knew someone involved with the recording so I was thrilled to hear that it finnaly was coming out to the masses! Its a shame it didnt do better. Simon had something here, I wish it would be revived, with some help I think that this could a much better show.

I've always been really intrigued by this musical, because I love Paul Simon, but I don't really know anything about this show.

I'm really curious why it flopped?

The score is truly wonderful. The book has some MAJOR issues, mostly in structure.

If you like the Cast Recording, I would also highly recommend Paul Simon's concept album. I'm not usually a fan of concept albums, but this one is fantastic. Simon singing all the songs, sung in the show by multiple characters, has the arresting effect of a great storyteller.

The critics killed Capeman because they felt Simon had no place on Broadway. What a shame because it was extremely well-directed and the cast was fantastic. It was one of the top ten nights I have had attending a Broadway show. One of the most marvelous thing about it was the diversity of the audience, many of whom came to see Marc Anthony and Rueben Blades and were seeing a musical for the first time. It was great to talk with them and get their impressions of this new world -- what a pity it closed far too soon.

I like The Capeman. I like the song, "Bernadette".

There's also Paul Simon's Broadway album. Any fans of that? Christiane Noll singing Kodachrome is amazing.

Bumping bigtime, because it's just been announced that there will be a concert presentation of "The Capeman" at BAM April 1-6.

Check out bam.org for details. I am really looking forward to this!

Not that it's very important, but you might just want to change the title ("OCB" to "OBC").
