Jeff Loeffelholz suicide news coverage Jul 22 2018, 06:35:42 AM
Watching the Dangerous Duets videos on youtube from the mid-90s, it is very clear that Loeffelholz was more than capable of carrying the demands of Mary Sunshine. But the coloratura/soprano are voice types that time is not kind to and twenty two years later I suspect that Loeffelholz's voice fell prey to the passage of type with a shrunken range, unstable vocal line, patchiness and an inability to negotiate downward intervals (bottoming out). No one suspected when L

re: Sutton Foster/YF Stagedoor Oct 31 2007, 11:51:18 AM
Instead of bothering people at the stage door, why don't you all go do some volunteer work in the local soup kitchen or go rock crack babies at Bellevue. You'll be far more fulfilled than you would be waiting for these "stars" to shine on you.

Robert Goulet and the Fellowship Oct 31 2007, 08:12:52 AM
Dear Rob-bear -- I remember meeting you at the fellowship when you spoke so eloquently of your demons and your struggle with recovery and how difficult sobriety was to maintain. You were a beacon and a role model to myself and many others and your stories were legendary. Putting Carol in the trunk may have been one of those things you came to regret, but we all did things that hurt other people -- sometimes they even forgave us. RIP you beautiful man you. Rip

THE CAPEMAN Appreciation Thread Oct 29 2007, 09:17:56 AM
The critics killed Capeman because they felt Simon had no place on Broadway. What a shame because it was extremely well-directed and the cast was fantastic. It was one of the top ten nights I have had attending a Broadway show. One of the most marvelous thing about it was the diversity of the audience, many of whom came to see Marc Anthony and Rueben Blades and were seeing a musical for the first time. It was great to talk with them and get their impressions of this new world -- what a pity

re: Wicked sold out for four years straght. Any other show able to do this? Oct 27 2007, 09:31:01 AM
Wicked was actually offered on TDF for several weeks after it opened. So much for the myth.

re: Tammy Grimes at the Metropolitan Room Oct 25 2007, 08:14:31 AM
Unfortunately, the thing that shined the most on Tammy was Christopher Plummer and his deep emotional cruelty. Imagine having nothing to do with the mother of your child because you did not want a family. Its no wonder Amanda is a little off-center as well. Shame -- such a beautiful talent thwarted. The perils of alcohol, I guess.

She appeared a little "high" and really rambled off on tangents. Don't know why she sang "Old Man River."

Kristin Chenoweth as Tevye?!?!?!?!?!? Oct 24 2007, 09:26:18 AM
She really should have been aborted what with her Christian views and all. You can't cater to the fagolas and preach Jesus. Sorry.

re: Meeting Chazz (A Walter Kerr Stage Door ?) Oct 24 2007, 09:24:40 AM
He IS nice. When I took my twin daughters to see the show they were dying for an autograph and a picture. He was delighted to pose and they made a Chazz sandwich. He LOVED it. We need more people like Chazz -- he understands the value of the fans.

re: Best Tony Award Performance Oct 24 2007, 09:11:07 AM
Yes, my vote goes to Bonnie Franklin and company for Applause. A real Broadway talent -- I remember when she was on the Gerswhin Tonies when they renamed the theater from the Uris. So coked up during How Long Has This Been Going On? -- its great fun to watch it in slow motion because she actually snorts during just before taking the repeat. What a loss she never got to play Mama Rose.

re: Fosse's DANCIN' to Enjoy Spring '09 B'way Revival Oct 23 2007, 02:29:58 PM
Nicole is married and lives in Woodstock Vermont where Gwen died. Seems kind of pointless to revive this when much of it was mediocre. I remember the during the original run, there was quite a cocaine problem at Dancin' -- it was the place to go to get a "toot". Anybody got any good stories about Vicki Frederick?

re: Robert Goulet in Critical Condition Oct 23 2007, 02:25:54 PM
As good as dead. Pity. Remember when he locked Carol in the trunk? That's why she became a holy roller christian and he went to aa. What a voice and what a lesson in how to turn your life around. By the way, he hates being called "Bob". Vera calls him Row-bear, the french way. Anybody got any good Row-bear stories?

re: Who was LuPones original alternate in Evita? Oct 23 2007, 02:01:58 PM
Terri Klausner was by far the better Eva -- she not only had a better voice than LuPone, she was a highly trained dancer so the production numbers were all spot on. I saw LuPone later and just didn't have the same experience. Klausner had real electricity and could do far more with her vocal phrasing. LuPone was, as I recall, quite threatened. Smart of Klausner to insist on playing six performances in the chorus -- that only added dimension to her performance.
