I really need some help. I am directing a musical this summer and I have not decided on what to do yet. I need a musical that is rated PG maybe R. I also need a part for at least one little girl. Please post your ideas and where you can get the rights.

The Secret Garden (Sam. French)
Annie (MTI)
A Little Night Music (MTI)
Jane Eyre (MTI)
ETA: The Music Man (MTI)

Sorry if some of them aren't PG or R...:-/

Unfortunetly our revial theatre just did Secret Garden so we are trying to stay away from that. We also have a children's musical right before that so we are also trying to stay away from Annie. Any other suggestions? Can you tell me what you know about Jane Eyre?

Pippin? I know of a production that changed the little boy, Theo, to a little girl, Thea.

Hm, I didn't know someone did that. In any event, I guess you could do Pippin if you changed Theo to Thea.

What do you guys think about Urinetown? I know that the part of little sally is suppose to be played by an adult acting like a child but it could be a little girl. Do you like the show?

Gah, Urinetown is SO funny.

But it depends how old the girl is. If she's 14 and younger, I'd say no, don't do it.

I haven't seen this show only the music. She is about 10. Why wouldn't this work?

It's not a good casting choice. Little Sally, if played by a young adult, should be at least 15 in my opinion.

Try Jane Eyre!

Do Meet me in St. Louis. I was not excited about it first, but it was so much fun. The music was great, the set was simple and it was very "feel good."Tutie, the young daughter, is an adorable part, as well. Definetly consider it.

You can use a 10 year old to play Little Red Riding Hood on Into the Woods. She only has one solo though.

I'm not sure I'd agree with Into the Woods. While Red is a young girl, I think it's a mistake to put a 10 year old in taht role. Sondheim is SO very difficult to sing, and the themes of that show are really complex and might very well go right over her head. At present my mind is blank for other shows that involve a little girl, besides In My Life...
