It's interesting. It's got shades of William Finn. Assuming that the writers were in college when they wrote it, it's pretty damn impressive. Now that they've gotten their "living life on your own in New York" show out of the way, we can expect some great things from them.
There are a lot of "living life on your own in NY" shows, aren't there? Just a few that count....Avenue Q, Millie, On the Town (kinda), Rent, Flora the Red Menace...
Wonderful Town, too.
It seems to pop up mostly with young writers, because many people write on experience, and that's what they have experience with: being young and trying to make it in the big city.
But, should I buy it? Is it worth it?
I totally agree. Never seen or heard of this show before but I cant stand the same premise for every damn show! Girl/boy from the west moves to NY... (Millie, Q, WT, BKLYN *kinda*, 42nd Street......)
It's a fun, interesting, new sound. If you like William Finn/Stephen Sondheim/Jason Robert Brown, then you'll probably like this recording. I wouldn't say it's the most necessary to the collection, but there are some great songs in the show.
I LOVE two of those you listed and like the other one so I probably am going to buy it. I am listening to the clips on amazon.com and I like what I hear.
its too damn expensive, but its definetly on my list...
The opening number reminds me of 'new world'

Actually I hate the score pretty much. No, hate is too strong actually, I just find it dull. No melody, square lyrics. The book is fair but no more than that. Nut up to average stuff.

Damn my Lauren Kennedy high.
Time to head over to Amazon.
I recommend it. I bought it a few months ago when I was in NYC and I enjoy most of it. (If not for Lauren Kennedy and Matt Bogart alone!) I find it to be not so much a show about young people trying to survive life in the city as much as it is about their relationships with one another. This is where I feel it differs from shows such as Millie, Avenue Q, etc. It's definitely a great start for these young composers!

Yooooooooooooooooooooo, bitches.
I just got back from the trainwreck of a reading that John Tartaglia did. It was great to see him back on a stage, but the stuff they were trying to pass off as a show was terrible.
Anyway, the reading was at Citigroup (54th and Lexington) and they were selling CDs from shows that played at the York Theater - I think. The point is, I picked up "I SING!" for $25, which is better than $38 on Amazon...or $26, used.
Just F your I.
What was the reading of?
