since I saw the show last night (which was AWESOME). What is your favorite song in the show. Mine is "If I Didn't Believe in You." That has got to be one of the most GORGEOUS songs ever.
I really like "The Next Ten Minutes." I saw that show twice Off-Broadway and it was wonderful. Norbert Leo Butz is really hot right now--everytime I read something I feel like its about him being in another show! I'm also super excited to see the return of Sherie Rene Scott is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels...can't wait to get my tickets!
how can you make me pick just one???????
seriously, i couldn't tell you- that is an unbelievable score.
Very true. Even though i LOVE L5Y, I still think PARADE his JRB's masterpiece. Have you heard anything about him? If he is coming out with anything new?
"The Next Ten Minutes" is easily my favorite, along with being one of my favorite showtunes of all time. ^_^ And I definitely agree with Parade being JRB's masterpiece.
Not quite sure what he's up to now, though. I seem to vaguely recall some news that he was spending time in Italy? That was months ago, though, maybe my memory's skewed.

Yes, JRB's in Italy right now. He's working on a couple of things. I think he's still at work on "The Moneyman" which is about the stock market crash. He's also working on a new show called "Thirteen" which is about thirteen 13-year-olds. And he's working on the musical version of "Honeymoon in Vegas".

"The Next Ten Minutes" is amazing!! I think "Moving Too Fast" and "Shiksa GoddesS" are really funny as well.
Norb is amazing!!
I'm really glad I'll see it performed in NJ early next year!! :)
does anyone else like Jamie's songs better than Cathy's? It seems like JRB connected with Jamie more than Cathy and developed the songs better for him. I don't know

ugh L5Y is amazing! My favorites are "If I Didn't Believe in You" and "Still Hurting"

I disagree. Cathy's songs are just as well written and connected as Jamie's. And boy can Sherie sing. Norby as well.
I started out skipping all of Cathy's songs, and becoming so entranced by Jamie's. But now I've come to favor Cathy's songs. "Goodbye Until Tomorrow" is probably my favorite, if I was forced to choose. They're all amazing though.
Does anyone not like L5Y??

I think part of the brilliance of this show is that some people come out preferring one character and their performance/music over the other. I think it may sometimes speak more about how the audience member feels about the story and points of view than about the actual songs. Very interesting...
I agree mattio. I mean, when I saw the show last night, I started out going "Man, Jamie is a jerk" but when it was Jamie's turn to tell the end of their relationship, I started hating Cathy. I think that is a great compliment to both JRB and Ms. Prince (director)
"Nobody Needs To Know". No question.
Also, there were just auditions for Thirteen at French Woods Camp in NY.
My favorites are "The Next Ten Minutes" and "See I'm Smiling." But I love them all!
This is an incredible score. All the songs are truely great.
"Nobody Needs to Know" is a really bittersweet song for me for some reason... I get weird feelings when I listen to it, such a beautiful song. Norbert and Sherie are amazing.

In response to what is JRB doing now..
He's doing 4 concerts in London with special guests including Joanna Riding and Phillip Quast. He'll also be doing songs from Thirteen with a thirteen year old girl.

I agree, I like Jamie's songs better. I guess cause they seem more developed, some are super fun and interesting and other go right to his heart and pain.
Cathy seems more annoying I guess ? Or more, you don't know why she's really driving him crazy. She doesn't see it I guess.
I dunno. But I do agree if you find yourself liking one of the characters better, it's prob. cause you relate.
Strangely, I had the opposite reaction regarding the end of Jamie and Cathy's relationship. At the beginning, with "Still Hurting" and "See, I'm Smiling", I was for whatever reason under the impression that Cathy screwed up the relationship somehow. She seemed demanding, controlling, and a teeny bit insane. But then at the end, there is the shocking revalation that Jamie is a cheating lying bastard (alright, so there's a lot of foreshadowing, but when he's saying "Hey kid, good morning, you look like an angel" I thought he was talking about Cathy. I about died when he said "Cathy is waiting".)
I love how people can have such completely different impressions from theatre.
Part of what makes this particular show so great is that at any given moment, it is completely possible to either hate or love both characters.
And that is more evidence for the argument that Jason Robert Brown is a genius.
I love this show as well. My favorite is the closing duet. So emotional. I also love the next ten minutes, it's so clever. What are people's thought on Sherie Rene Scott's voice? I'm not her biggest fan, sorta undecided.
yes, when he says "cathy is waiting", everything just falls apart- what a wonderful, tragic moment.
