And I LOVE them, so thank you to everyone who gave me advice. I went with the OBC and the 1998 Paper Mill Recording.
Here are some thoughts. One the other thread someone said all recordings are great as long as they don't have Carole Burnett, Mandy Patinkin or Donna McKechnie in them. Well I TOTALLY LOVE hearing Donna McKecknie sing the part of Sally.
I also love hearing Ann Miller sing "I'm Still Here."
Anyways, thanks to everyone to helping me out!
For anyone who dissed Donna McKechnie on the previous thread - she was Sondheim's choice for Sally. He feels that she's an especially underrated actress and vocalist.

Donna was amazing in the Papermill production!
My FOLLIES OLC came yesterday, it was considered "lower tier" and may not be up the quality of the OBC or PaperMill, or the concert. I am still loving it though, it is strange to hear all the different songs though.
ETA: I also really like Donna on the Papermill, but just because she is "Sondheim's choice" is no reason to say that someone is incorrect to find fault with the performance.
But it also is a reason to not summarily dismiss her, as many people do. I thought she was a great Sally as well.
I didn't see her in the production, but I think her performance on the CD is remarkable. Both leading ladies from Papermill sound very much like the original broadway ladies, which I think is cool.

Add me to the list of McKechnie lovers. She has a terrific underrated voice. With her singing and her extraordinary dance skills it's criminal that she isn't a much much bigger star than she is. While she's known and respected in Broadway circles, in another era she might have been a household name beyond that with composers and directors lining up to create star vehicles for her. Perhaps if Bennett had lived he might have built another show around her talents. She deserved so much more than only having one major starring role in an original show to her credit.
Glad you like them.
I think McKechnie is STUNNING on that recording. Proves she's more than just a dancer.
And Ann Miller's "I'm Still Here" is so great. Such gusto and force behind it.
Seeing Donna hoofing her way through "Who's That Woman?" was also a highlight. Jerry Mitchell recreated Michael Bennett's choreography for the dance section, so that number took on added layers of resonance with Donna's presence.

I too enjoy Donna's performance.
I also have the episode of Cheers when she plays Sam's wife. What a great performer.
This thread inspired me to finally buy her Inside the Music cd. 12 bucks and autographed! Score!
Donna's performance on disc is excellent, I very much enjoy her Sally portrayal.
I think she brings a lot of the essential Sally element of optimistism in her regret to the performance.
Glad to hear that BobbyBubby! Do tell more about the CD!
I'll let you know about it as soon as it arrives.
