spent the past two and a half days in New York and I loved every second of it... first time ever on the East Coast (born and raised in San Diego now live in LA) here are the shows I saw:

Friday night i saw Beauty and the Beast and loved it... sad to not see Brooke Tansely (got her u/s) since I've heard so many good things about her, but her u/s was excellent (forgot her name) and the audience gave her a standing ovation... the show's in good shape... the ensemble was good.. but i felt that the show was too small... i know it used to be at the Palace Theater... but i was sitting there thinking this show could have used more ensemble and had a little bit more grander sets... but i loved it nonetheless... the show's in excellent shape

Saturday afternoon I saw All Shook Up... now i went in with an open mind becaue i've heard pretty good things about it... and i ended up leaving the theater LOVING this show... paid for the 19.55 balcony seats and i had a blast... now i finally know what all the fuss is with Cheyenne... he was excellent! and i also know why people love Jenn Gambatese so much.... i haven't had this much fun at a show in a loong time... this show tries to be a musical comedy and it does just that... doesn't take itself too seriously... the plot was excellent and the songs actually work in the show... unlike Mamma Mia... went to the Virgin Megastore later in the evening because i had to buy the CD

Saturday evening i saw RENT.. and i LOVED IT! you can read my review on the compulsive bowlers website

OK... so my first thoughts about the theaters were that they were small... i always envisioned broadway theaters as these huge auditoriums where if you sat in the balcony you couldn't see sh**.. i was wrong... the theaters were pretty small... (mind you i didn't go to the Gerswhin where i've been told it is huge)... i'm used to theaters in San Diego and Los Angeles that are huge... but broadway theaters are actually quite nice... except for the NEderlander where i saw RENT... UGLY and UNCOMFORTABLE.... anyways... i'm now in love with New York City... i may have to consider moving out there in the future... GO NEW YORKERS!

glad you had a good time. I'm seeing ASU next week, I can't wait!

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

The Nederlander is long overdue for a restoration. but it's current "run down" state, with the holes in the ceiling and stucco on the walls really suits the show. it's the perfect theatre for RENT. re: I have finally been to New York and saw some shows...
