Hmmmm...so to be truly free you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, for however long you want? That would work if you lived by yourself on a desert island. But, in this country, freedom..doesn't come for free you pay a price for every liberty we have. There are certain obligations each of us are called upon to undertake. Some fully participate in them...some don't.

It's indeed sad that penalties have to be rendered for those who choose not to meet their obligations...after all it is a free country right? Tell that to the person,(maybe someone who's in school) who is waiting for a jury trial with the hopes that the jury will be made up a group of people that might in someway be his peers. Or better yet, tell that person, who's looking for justice, that the lawyers and the judge weren't able to seat anyone, the same age, with the same background, and education, because..well..it's a free country and those people can just do what they want. Better luck next time.

Hopefully, you'll never ever find yourself in those circumstances. But, isn't nice to think that if you ever are, that the jury might be made up of people just like you?

LOL If a jury was made up of people like me I would be scared for my life! I don't care what Aristotle says! The law is not reason ree from passion (anyone who saw the movie Leaglly Blonde gets that). LOL I am sometimes over-passionate about things, and it can get out of control. I guess in certain circumstances it can be good, but I wouldn't want someone like me not on my side.

LOL I had to be a lawyer in my Government class's mock trial, and I made the witness cry. It was a friggin mock trial! It wasn't even real, and I made her cry because I got carried away.

Yes, silly you. "Freedom of Speech" only applies to the Federal Government not controlling the press. It has nothing to do with another member of this board getting annoyed with you and saying "Shut up!"

Maybe it would be better to do away with the whole jury system and just let the judge decide. "Hmmm, you must be guilty or they wouldn't have arrested you!"
