Don't know the story or music... should I get familiar with it or will I enjoy it more if it's completely fresh?

Go in fresh and see what you think!
The music and book are FANTASTIC though... but I would go in "cold" and see what happens.
Get ready for a jazzy and very funny evening.
Cool, thanks! I've heard so much hype about it, but not what it's actually about. I'll let you guys know what I thought.

Enjoy this fantastic show! I am seeing a production of this show in Northern California next week, and look forward to seeing what the regional group does with the material. One of Cy Coleman's best scores, and a wonderful stage concept to go with it.
I agree with best12...see it without CD prep.
Oh, enjoy the show - it's become one of my favorites (I saw a concert version of it a few years ago in Palm Desert) I wish I was in LA in time to see it, but sadly I arrive a week too late. Please let us know how it was.
I saw it last weekend and enjoyed it very much. Chromolume has done wonders on a shoestring budget (though the show has apparently pretty much bankrupted them--sad). I especially liked Paul Clausen as Stone, Alan Safier as Buddy, and Kendra Munger as Alaura. It'll be fun to compare this 99 seat production with the upcoming big theater staging by Reprise. Basically it's a play within a play, a black and white film noir and the real life of the writer of the film, with the lines between truth and cinema becoming quite blurred. Very jazzy Cy Coleman score. Hope you like it!
today's the day, review to come later!
