Hi all! I will be traveling to NYC at the end of September to see a few shows with my sister, and to attend the BCEFA Flea Market. We already have tickets to Come From Away and Mean Girls, and would like to do a third show. My sister has bought a ticket to Once on This Island, however I am debating whether I should also get a ticket, or whether I should go for The Band's Visit instead (I have been wanting to see TBV for a while). I can only do one of these two. I understand from reading on this message board that TBV should be seen from the orchestra, and those tickets are pretty pricey. Is there any chance these prices might go down, and is Telecharge the best place to buy? Thanks in advance for any opinions!

If you can get a ticket to it, The Band's Visit.

The Band's Visit. Front Mezz is great, too. (Likely a similar price) That being said, Once on this Island is pretty terrific - but can also be seen at local theater. I'm not sure how often TBV will be able to boast that given the specific casting needs.

I always try to stream or listen to the recording as well as watching whatever YouTube videos are up - not to be rude, but don't listen to what other posters may say because it will all come down to your own taste... You know you better than anybody, or else just let the seating options decide it for you.
Once On This Island is so great however so I would say see it!

That’s a hard one. I’m seeing OOTI for the first time next Sunday (I leave for my NYC trip tomorrow). I have seen TBV and fully endorse it. I do think one should try to see TBV on Broadway from front Orchestra if possible. I worry that this intimate show will be swallowed up in the cavernous confines of huge performing arts centers when it tours. However, it is also unlikely that the immersive OOTI Broadway experience will be able to be duplicated on tour.
Since both shows are excellent, Tony award winners, and both deserve to be seen on Broadway, I suggest you let your pocketbook decide. If the front Orchestra of TBV is too rich for your blood, then go for OOTI. I doubt prices will go lower for TBV. It is possible that by September, TBV may start popping up again at TKTS.
The only other consideration would be if you see TBV, Lenk would hopefully still be in the show so you would get to experience her luminous Tony-award winning performance.
Please let us know what you decide!

Thanks for your responses! I just bought my ticket for The Band's Visit. I got pretty close; Orch Right, row A, on the aisle. I'm excited to be so close!

To anyone interested: Just got back from NYC on Monday. I ended up adding a few shows to my trip, seeing six shows over the course of four days. I saw Come From Away, Mean Girls, My Fair Lady, Be More Chill, Kinky Boots, and The Band's Visit. I enjoyed all of the shows (except Be More Chill), but CFA and TBV were definitely my favorites. My seat for TBV was absolutely perfect; great sightlines, and I was close enough to be completely absorbed in the show. It's a beautiful production! I had chills during several scenes, and found myself breathless after Answer Me. If you're looking to see the show, front orchestra is perfect!

I felt the exact same way at TBV! I'm so glad your trip went well. I sat in the same area (Row B) when I saw it and was just blown away too.
