I guess it's possible that it was a compilation of different nights, or wasn't filmed live at all.
I love watching that dvd so much. Bernadette is so hilarious.

I can't get more excited about this DVD!!! It is just so good. And can we talk about the Princes? Westenburg and Wagner are absolute perfection in the roles. But, frankly, if I stop to think about it, I can't think of anyone who wasn't perfection in it.
The show that ended up on the video/dvd is from filming over several live performances and also some of the show was filmed without an audience so that special effects could be added. Most of it is in front of an audience though.

Mojul- Not quite sure I know what you mean when you say "Some of the stuff was filmed without an audience so they could do the special effects"
What specifically are you talking about.... the witch transformation. This WAS an actual broadway show, and the "special effects" were there when the audience was. I dotn beleive (please people correct me if Im wrong) there was anything ADDED special effect wise for the video.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this show.... with THIS cast...
Oh and Kim Crosby still does stuff here and there. She was at the MUNY 2004 playing Marian in Music Man.

I just saw Chip tonight! I LOVE that man! What an amazing talent and such a wonderfully sweet person! I adore him!
The witch's transformation which is on the DVD was filmed in an empty theater because it was filmed in segments. On stage a double was used during the "potion scene" and the witches face was covered with her hood because it wasn't actually Bernadette on stage. She was saying her lines off stage into a mic. In the video you can see her face the entire time because its Bernadette the entire time. With no audience they were able to stop the filming and wait for Bernadette to change.
I also thought the lightening coming out of the staff was added in the video.
The cast in my opinion is perfection! Every single person is perfect for the role they were cast in and brought so much to each song and line.
The cast and the DVD is perfection of the show, full stop, end of story.
I love INTO THE WOODS!! The entire cast is amazing.
I heard the Vanessa Williams recording and didn't get what the big deal was. Then I saw the video. I don't own it, but get it from Netflix every once in a while. Oh, I love Love LOVE it!
