After all the reviews I was very curious as to what this "Brooklyn" show was all about. I am a middle aged gay male who has been a broadway fan for years....(since Rosa).
I really liked this show. The story line is a bit weak and the music is certainly "American Idolish" but I sort of like the new sound. Not your typical bway music but very interesting in a good way. The costumes were very fun.
The audience was very excited, in fact the two people sitting next to me would not stay seated (it was kind of annoying)
Oh well, just my 2 cents but I think I liked it.

Yep I agree. Not for everyone but strikes a chord indeed.

BROOKLYN is a terrific show. An amazing group of talent. All of the people that have been at the performances that I have been to have all reacted the same, overwhelming support. I hope it proves the critics wrong.

wait... TinyToon... you think BKLYN will do well??? Wow... never heard that out of you before!
Hey i saw Brooklyn tonight too! I agree completely that the music was a bit "American Idolish". I honestly found myslef rolling my eyes during the whole lullably bit. But, I tend to dislike "cheesy" music. I was totally expecting Eden to steal the show because of all the hype about her, but really Cleav??? Derreks (streetsinger) and Ramona kelly?
(paradice) were beyond a doubt the stars of the show. (Sorry i left the playbill at the theatre) I have read on BBW that Kevin Anderson lacked energy, but I thought he was great. I was very impressed by the entire casts' vocal ablilties. As far as acting, I thought Eden looked a little uncomfortable at times...I know I am probably alone in this but I thought her stage presence was a little akward at times even though her voice is phenominal. maybe it was because i was expecting so much from her. Everyone else was great. I thought the set was creative and the costumes were very cleaver. Also, the people around me (mostly middle aged) were VERY enthusiastic about the show. I heard most of them comment that they would come back to see it again. Overall, I really enjoyed myself. I'm glad I saw it, although I am not sure I would really want to see it again. Also, for those who are intersted, I purchased a student ticket to this show an hour before the performance for 26,50...the seats were good! If y'all want to know anything further feel free to PM me! PS sorry if this isn't the most well written review to ever be posted on BBW...it is late and I am tired.
oh i just wanted to say one more thing...The message of Brooklyn did nor personally hit home with me, but I can see how someone who really related to the themes of the show would be totally obsessed with it!!
Some of the cast were on the Today morning show (Saturday 10/30/04). They same "Once Upon a Time". I loved the song and it made me want to go and see the show.

I saw it as well. The story behind the show was really touching.
I was not very interested in seeing the show, but the performance definitely piqued my interest. Eden has an incredible vocal range. The show does seem a little thin, but if I have a chance to see it, I will definitely be open-minded.
I saw Brooklyn last night also!
The cast is the hardest working right now on Broadway. Period.
The music, I thought, was amazing.
The book, well there really wasnt one.
Everything was great except for the book, the sets, lights, and costumes were brilliant.
I will definetly be going back!

Brooklyn is a piece of crap. The score is okay, Paradice is good, but the lyrics and book are pathetic, a nauseating parade of cliches and easy enlightenment drivel that would make Kathie Lee Gifford sick to her stomach.
I can say that it is successful in one respect. It sure looks like a piece of theatre written and developed by a bunch of homeless people.

I saw Brooklyn while it was still in Previews and even though I agree that the storyline and some of the music are weak, the show was enjoyable because the performers were so talented and obviously enthusiastically into the show...

Somehow I logged in as someone else? But this was my posting...

And to further elaborate, I think the show will have moderate success, but in order to have been really successful, they would have had to make a lot of drastic changes from when I saw it in previews..

I just got back from the matinee performance. The show was excellent. Don't let bad reviews keep you from seeing this show. I think it was great. The entire cast did a great job. Eden was amazing!!!! Go see it if you haven't already!!!

That's because you have too many accounts registered from which to shill for BKLYN. You'll never be a serious Broadway PR Girl never, if you don't learn how to cover your tracks better. Maybe you should just transfer to Girl's High.
Brooklyn is a really haunting show. I just found it entertaining initially, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. I can see how some people would have trouble with it--it takes a lot of suspension of disbelief, and it's very stylized (that's what I think the book is, stylized, not a piece of crap). They call it a fairy tale and tell it in the fashion of one. I think fairy tales tend to sound cliche, and in the effort to make it sound like one, the writers wrote in that style. So yes, it is filled with cliches, and no, it is not believable--but it does have a message, one which I think is very powerful if one can manage to suspend disbelief long enough.

Are you serious? I'm not even remotely a shill, I've never posted here before today, period. I don't know if somehow the system logged me in as someone else or we tried to post at the same time and it messed up, but that's someone else's membername, icon, profile, etc. that had my post under it. But nice try...

The nice try is all yours.
I'm slowly starting to like the song 'Once Upon a Time'...but still, that ending note is just HIDEOUS.
Agreed. It sounds much better live though.
The cast is the hardest working on Broadway right now?? I hope you said that in jest !!! There's this little show called "Avenue Q"... maybe you have heard of it??

Sisyphus worked really hard too.
