I've had the distinct honor of seeing her twice on Broadway. First in Kiss of the Spiderwoman and then in Nine. Her close friend and no less an amazing performer, Rita Moreno, was in attendance and I got to chat with her for a few minutes.
Class acts both of them.

Posted: 8/8/09 at 5:59pmI only chatted with Ms. Moreno. (I'm not one for StageDooring). But she was delightful and truly warm when I approached her outside the theater before the show. She was standing alone (her companinion had gone inside to the box office) and people were just GAWKING at her. I think she was grateful that I actually spoke to her and treated her like a person.

Posted: 8/9/09 at 10:04ami was working at Sweetwater (now Gibsons) on Rush Street in Chicago during the 70's and Chita and Gwen took over the leads for a week in the tour of Chicago, I believe at the Blackstone then. I waited on her and remember, like yesterday, how charming and gracious she was. She signed a cocktail napkin for me, with a little heart above the "i" in her name. Damn i can't find that napkin. She so deserves the honor Obama has recently bestowed on her.
