The topic of creepy fans or fans that try to invade people's lives have been discussed here. I want to give you insight on why people do this. Some of these things I didn't realize after I reflected on it. And I am not saying that every creepy fan thinks this way. But I'm just giving my side of the story.
Well I found out about stage dooring at Rent and I thought it was a neat opportunity to meet some of the performers and I met them and I was pleasantly surprised about how nice and sweet they were. Then I stagedoored Wicked and the same thing happened. They seemed friendly, they seemed nice, they almost seem like they wanted to be a friend...
So i would tell my friends at school that i met some of these people and we'd talk about such and such, and it made me seem popular it made me seem that my life meant something, it made me seem that i was more than the crap that my existence was.
Well during this time, I was going thru an odd time of my life, I had a hard time making friends and I hated people who were neglecting me. I hated people that didn't give me their time. I found stagedooring to be refreshing because these people would be nice to me. They almost seemed too nice. So these would be my friends, I don't need these other friends, my friends were broadway stars.
So i added various stars as my myspace and facebook friends, and i would send them messages, if they came to my town i would stagedoor the show 4 to 5 times and say hi and act like we were best friends. I sometimes gave them bottles of water and sometimes would ask them to sign several things. In my fantasy world, these were my friends, and we hung out. Sometimes i would give them DVD sets of their favorite movies. This went on and on for a long time. Then i suddenly realized i needed help.
So i saw some counseling, and I learned to develop real friendships. That was 2 years ago. I still see shows and still stage door but I'm really careful to respect the fan/performer relationship. So to those who try to be friends with the performers my advice is that try to find friends who are like you and appreciate you for you and not put on a face to be nice to their fans.

Posted: 1/20/08 at 11:44pmI have a hard time making friends too. I got into a long argument with my best friend about this today and he was being a bitch about it. I learned to give people space today. So, because I'm autistic, I also have a hard time.

Posted: 1/22/08 at 6:46pmExactly-Do not let the smartalecs get you down! I know that is what Idina always said to me- she & I got to be quite close during the run of Wicked and a lot of fans were very jealous of our relationship. I never let it bother me.

no. joe's dead serious. we were talking about this with tyler outside the lunt last night and he agrees that some people just take it waaaaaayyyyyy too far.
and jftr, he likes me better and only uses joe for smokes. i would never give a performer cigarettes.
