The Gates in Central Park (whether you love it or hate it, it's once in a lifetime).
I would suggest when you get here buy a copy of Time Out Magazine. It's a good source for what's going on in the city each week.

Agree completely! I, unfortunately, only got to spend a few hours there last time I visited NY and it wasn't nearly enough. I really hope to go back someday on my own and spend some good time in there. As for what to do, just walk around. Maybe this is just me but for someone who doesn't live in NY (or frequent the city often) just walking around for a while and taking in everything is just an amazing way to spend time. Plus its good excercise. :-P

Posted: 2/17/05 at 1:26amIf you're at all into art, I strongly STRONGLY urge you to check out the new Museum of Modern Art on 53rd between 5th and 6th avenues - it's close to times square and it's remarkable. On Friday nights from 4 - 8 PM it's completely free, so if you're here, take advantage of that!

Posted: 2/17/05 at 8:20amI just got home from NY and had no problem getting tickets to anything. I go to Playbill.com and BroadwayBox.com and print out all the offers for shows that I think I might be interested in. I then go to those theatres and see what they have available before I try TKTS (get better seats but still a discount)and no long lines of waiting.

one of those rickshaw bicycle rides through central park is fun too, although a bit pricey. my partner and i took one of the south end loop last thanksgiving. it was cold and we bundled up under a blanket ... very romantic. and we had a sexy east european driver :) we had just seen the ANGELS IN AMERICA dvd, and it was neat to see bethesda fountain.

Posted: 2/19/05 at 10:50pmLittle Women and La Cage will almost certainly be on TKTS...La Cage sometimes isn't up on weekends, but you can pretty much count on Little Women. Don't expect Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to be on TKTS, however you can potentially get full price (or discounted tickets using a code) at the box office the day of the performance. I would definitely recommend "Brooklyn Boy" since it is closing in March and it's a very good production, despite the schmaltz. Also "Democracy" is wonderful -- especially if you enjoyed Copenhagen. I am also more of a play person -- and I am CONFIDENT in saying that you will enjoy "Brooklyn Boy" or "Democracy" alot more than you will Little Women or La Cage...
