Now that I've had a night's rest to think about this, I can see the light.
Idina Menzel will, undoubtedly, bring in legions of Wicked fans expecting Elphaba II. These fans will not quite get what they expected. Either they will come away from the experience bruised and scarred for life, or they will leave with a newfound appreciation for high art in musical theatre. LaChiusa is one of the most challenging composers working today. If Menzel is what it takes to get him mainstream exposure, then I'm all for it.
That said, I'm still upset that Audra won't be involved. I really would like to see her on stage at some point in my life. Hopefully soon.

Don't worry about Idina's fans crashing the show. Most won't be able to get tickets. The Public sells out very quickly. Now the stage door on the other hand...scary.

Thanks for the heads up, Margo. I just bought a membership. I'm a poor college student so I had to settle for the 3 play package. Oh, to be wealthy.
thanks professor
it sounds very interesting!
The Public doesn't have a real stage door; they just let you wait in the lobby for the actors. Chaos!
ETA - which space is this in?
LaChiusa is probably one of my favorite "modern" composers...and I have yet to see one of his shows.
Screw Idina, I want to see a LaChiusa show!
Yes Thenadier, most of us are very much aware that you would love to screw Idina...
UGH....
For once, I was trying to discuss theatre without the hormones.
ooooooooh. Snap, Thenardier.
I too am sad about the lack of Audra, but happy for Idina and her fans.
Maybe Audra was too busy working on her new (tv) show.
Well, I won't stoop to the levels of Gerry fantasizing and putting hormonal lust in front of pure talent.
AKA - Gerry can't sing.
am so wishing i lived in NY. i miss out on way too much...
I've had a revelation. Michael John LaChiusa wouldn't put a sub-standard production on stage. This show will be good. The man knows what he is doing.
That is all.
Zoran, I am trying to swing over to your new revelation. It's still just so hard to realize that I won't see Audra. But I plan on seeing it anyways b/c I must see a LaChiusa show. Love his work!
Yes. You are right.
I am confident that Idina will do a fine job.. I am sure the score will be great, as well.
I know that it's insanely early to be asking this question in regards to this show, but what's the deal with their student tickets? It says that they're subject to availability; does that mean they don't give any out if the show is sold out? I know the Quik Tix are only sold if the show isn't sold out, but the student tickets info seems a little vague and I've never seen a show there before so I'm wonering how it works.
I'm just debating whether I should buy a membership, try my luck with the public ticket sale whenever that is, or hope that I get lucky with their rush.
(I promise I'm not a crazy Idina Menzel-obsessed teeny-bopper, I'm just a big fan and I do think I would enjoy this show regardless of who is starring).

Just so you guys know, if you happen to visit with Marc at the stagedoor of Chitty you may be able to coerce him into singing his big song from SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE. When I saw him in ASSASSINS a few years ago his eyes lit up with excitement when asked about the show and he asked me if I'd like to hear his "big second act number" and I of course relished the opportunity. I believe it's called "Coffee" and it is excellent. It's LaChiusa in the jaunty and melodic WILD PARTY mode, moreso than the MARIE CHRISTINE or FIRST LADY SUITE mode. It didn't take much convincing to get him to sing it, and although I'm sure Marc likes to give his voice a rest after the show, on that particular night he had no qualms about belting the song at the 54 stage door.

Elphie, I didn't even know the Public had student rush tix...I thought it was just QuikTix. I did QuikTix for The Normal Heart (just showed up 1/2 hour before curtain and got 'em).
I didn't really have much luck w/ shows last year, but I think I'm going to try early in previews before reviews come out, etc. I don't know. I wish they had a Student subscription package like Playwrights Horizons. I guess the Preview package is the next best thing, but I don't think I've got $150 to spare at the moment.
haha...I just checked the dates of this, and it'll be pretty hard for me to see. It closes November 20th. I get back the 18th, giving me the chance to see it on the 19th or the 20th (and mabel, you know what else is on the 20th). I guess I'll just try to buy tickets when they go on sale and if that doesn't work, try my luck with whatever their student rush is.
