IMO, Sara Ramirez is NOT a diva

Alright, I love Sara and I have always hated reading posts about how she's very much like a diva, but I never met the woman, so I could never comment on what I though. Until yesterday.
I was with broadway betty, and we were waiting for some of my friends to get out of DRS so we thought we would stage door Spamalot and Pillowman while we were waiting. We kinda figured Sara wouldn't come out because it was in between shows, but she did!! She came over to us and I asked to get my picture taken with her and she gladly let me take one, and she said that me and betty were "so cute" (probably because we were babbling like idiots because we love her so much LOL). She signed for everyone and took pictures and was out there for a while, and then she went back in.
I found this behavior a lot different from everything I read about her. I'm just pissed my camera spazzed out on me and I lost all my pics...

Posted: 9/18/05 at 1:03pmI thought be a diva is a good thing? When I think of a diva, I'm thinking Maria Callas. Sure she's hard to work with, but she give all she got to her audience and they love her for it.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 2:06pmI've yet to meet her, but I wrote to her and got mail back. My friend and I made her green Lady of the Lake costume, and I sent pictures, which one of my friend's said she loved. I've never heard one bad stage door story about her.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 2:29pmI have never heard of her being a diva in any fashion at the stage door. Unfortunately when that person wrote the article about her missing shows, which was true, he also made her out to be a diva, which from everything I have heard is not. They seem like a very close knit cast.

I just met Sara after the show this past Thursday evening. She was an absolutely sweetheart at the stage door. When she came out and walked to the one side of the barricades, the people beside me got pissed and starting chanting her name. You see they thought she wasn't coming over to our side and I politely told them that she was indeed making her way over to us. Oh, and of course they weren't pronouncing her name correctly. When she finally got to me, this was our conversation:
Me: Awesome, awesome job SA-DA. (glares at chanting crowd)
Sara: (laughing) Oh thank you so much! I'm glad you know my name.
Me: Yeah. Oh, and I wasn't chanting your name. I wouldn't do that because that's just scary.
Sara: (laughing) Yeah, tell me about it.
Needless to say, she was very polite and chatted with everyone a bit. And she took pictures with anyone who asked. Not exactly what I'd call a diva-bitch.

So the R is pronounced like a D? I never knew that. Interesting.
Thanks for that tidbit.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 3:37pmWhen I met her, she certainly wasn't a diva. And I met her BEFORE Mike Nichols gave a talk to the cast... and she was there for a matinee show. I wish people would stop speculating about her, because she is a great performer, and though she was sick... it isn't a reason to call her a diva. I know she missed performances, but everyone does. Leave her alone, she was really sweet... and my sister and I were one of the only at the stage door to call her SA-DA, and she was grateful. It honestly would annoy me also, but she has never overreacted about it. Can you imagine everyone always pronouncing your name wrong?

"Can you imagine everyone always pronouncing your name wrong?"
Yes, it gets annoying. You live with it though.
I don't think she's a diva. Met he once during Capeman and she was a very nice lady. The biggest diva i've ever met was Axl Rose. He was a total *****.

She's not a diva shes DIVAIN. The negative version of Diva. Meaning: Acts in such a manner to the ideal that one is better than someone else. Creates Drama in situations where the spotlight is upon ones self.
Ms. Chenoweth also befits this description.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 7:25pmwait, her name isn't pronounced "SARA"?? I thought thats what they said at the Tony awards, or am I losing it??
re: IMO, Sara Ramirez is NOT a diva#17
Posted: 9/18/05 at 8:42pmNo, her name is not pronounced "Sarah." It's Sa-Da. And they pronounced it correctly on the Tony's if I remember correctly. Or atleast James Earl Jones did when he announced her as the winner for Featured Actress in a Musical.

Posted: 9/18/05 at 10:20pmI'm glad to see that everyone else has such good stories about her too!! She is such a sweetheart and is so beautiful...I seriously felt like a pile of puke standing next to her lol.
re: IMO, Sara Ramirez is NOT a diva#20
Posted: 9/19/05 at 12:50amActually he pronounced it both correctly and incorrectly. When he read out the nominees from the teleprompter, it was spelled phonetically on there. When he announced her as the winner, he called her Sarah.
